12/06/2019  Class 4  Shatin  All Weather Track    1650m   Going: WET SLOW  (8.81)    Rating: 060-040

DARK KNIGHT was withdrawn on 11.6.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, DARK KNIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, HAY RUN raced in restricted room between REMARKABLE and WONDER EXPRESS which shifted out. From the outside barrier, PERFECT BUDDY was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, FLASH FAMOUS was very awkwardly placed outside the heels of ENJOY LIFE when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse. After this, FLASH FAMOUS was left racing wide and without cover and was taken wider still by firstly REMARKABLE near the 1000 Metres and then when that horse was taken out by ENJOY LIFE near the 800 Metres. FLASH FAMOUS was then steadied near the 700 Metres to obtain a trailing position behind REMARKABLE. Also making the turn after passing the winning post on the first occasion, HAY RUN momentarily raced in restricted room between CROWN AVENUE and REMARKABLE. Approaching the 400 Metres, WONDER EXPRESS and ENJOY LIFE bumped. HAY RUN, which was following ENJOY LIFE, shifted out away from behind that horse and consequently raced tight inside FLASH FAMOUS. When questioned, C Schofield (WONDER EXPRESS) stated that he was instructed to lead the race. He said SPLENDID TIMING, which was drawn immediately to WONDER EXPRESS’ inside, began far better than his mount and he had to ride it along to improve his position. He said after shifting in to race outside SPLENDID TIMING approaching the 1400 Metres, he then rode his mount along with a view to improving forward of that horse and crossing SPLENDID TIMING to race in the lead. He said although he had to make more use of WONDER EXPRESS than had been anticipated, he felt that with the horse’s relatively light weight of 118 lbs compared to the top weight carried by SPLENDID TIMING, there may be an opportunity to obtain an uncontested lead. He added when SPLENDID TIMING maintained its position inside WONDER EXPRESS, he then steadied his mount after the 1200 Metres to sit off SPLENDID TIMING rather than engage in a speed battle in the lead. He said after this WONDER EXPRESS relaxed well, however, came under pressure passing the 600 Metres and then gave ground in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of WONDER EXPRESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. A veterinary inspection of SPLENDID TIMING immediately following the race found that horse to have blood present at the right nostril. The Veterinary Officer reported that an endoscopic examination of SPLENDID TIMING confirmed the horse to have bled. SPLENDID TIMING, REMARKABLE and CROWN AVENUE were sent for sampling. <13/6/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>SPLENDID TIMING, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time the horse had blood present at the right nostril. The Veterinary Officer reported that an endoscopic examination of SPLENDID TIMING confirmed the horse to have bled. SPLENDID TIMING was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C W Chang this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SPLENDID TIMING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

TOUCH OF LUCK stumbled badly at the start, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced and TOUCH OF LUCK losing ground. COOLCELEB shifted out at the start and bumped STRATHBARRA. From wide barriers, ENFOLDING and GOOD FIT were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Making the turn after passing the winning post on the first occasion, TOUCH OF LUCK commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of COOLCELEB. LASTING FRIENDSHIP lost its left front plate near the 1400 Metres. Approaching the 1400 Metres, as COOLCELEB was being steadied to allow CONFUCIUS DAY to cross, COOLCELEB shifted out marginally. TOUCH OF LUCK, which was following COOLCELEB, improved into tight running inside that horse and then was checked away from the heels of COOLCELEB passing the 1400 Metres as that horse shifted back in marginally. Approaching and passing the 1400 Metres, STRATHBARRA proved very difficult to settle and then was checked away from the heels of LASTING FRIENDSHIP after the 1200 Metres. After this, STRATHBARRA continued to travel very keenly. Near the 1100 Metres, CONFUCIUS DAY shifted out and inconvenienced LASTING FRIENDSHIP. Near the 800 Metres, the head piece with the pacifier with cowls carried by TOUCH OF LUCK came loose due to the velcro straps separating. Then near the 200 Metres, the head piece carried by TOUCH OF LUCK dislodged at which time the brow band also slipped back. Mr J Moore, the trainer of TOUCH OF LUCK, was spoken to regarding this matter with him undertaking to make the necessary alterations to the gear which was compliant with the Regulations. Near the 450 Metres, GOLDEN FOUR and GOOD FIT raced tight as GOLDEN FOUR improved into restricted room between that horse and STRATHBARRA. At the entrance to the Straight, STRATHBARRA shifted out and brushed GOLDEN FOUR. Throughout the race, STARLIT KNIGHT travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, M L Yeung stated that as COOLCELEB was attempting the 1650 Metres on the All Weather surface for the first time, it was felt that the best opportunity for the horse to see out the distance would be to obtain a trailing position. He said however he was told that if no other rider was intent on leading, it was acceptable for him to do so. He said when CONFUCIUS DAY improved around COOLCELEB after passing the winning post on the first occasion, he was comfortable to allow that horse to cross COOLCELEB and obtain a position with cover behind that horse. He said after being crossed by CONFUCIUS DAY, COOLCELEB appeared to lose interest in the race and, in his opinion, did not appreciate the kickback. He added this resulted in COOLCELEB coming under pressure a long way from finish and then in the Straight not closing off as the horse had done previously over shorter distances on this surface. A veterinary inspection of COOLCELEB immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of J Moreira (STARLIT KNIGHT), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit. After the race, J Moreira expressed concern regarding the action of STARLIT KNIGHT. STARLIT KNIGHT was subsequently examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, STARLIT KNIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. STRATHBARRA lost its left front plate after the race. LASTING FRIENDSHIP and TOUCH OF LUCK were sent for sampling.

Acting on veterinary advice that ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHINING BRIGHT and WHAMPOA STAR bumped at the start. OPEN HOUSE shifted out at the start and bumped LUCKY WIN WIN which in turn shifted out and made contact with SPEEDY WALLY. MASTER BERNINI shifted out at the start and bumped ART OF RAW, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. K Teetan was fined $5,000 for dropping his whip on MASTER BERNINI shortly after the start. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, ABOVE failed to muster speed. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, THE JOY OF GIVING shifted in and brushed the running rail of its own accord. THE JOY OF GIVING then became unbalanced, shifted out and made contact with ABOVE, causing both horses to become badly unbalanced. LUCKY WIN WIN, which was following ABOVE, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence. After the 1400 Metres, WHAMPOA STAR was left racing wide and without cover and then was ridden along for some distance passing the 1200 Metres to obtain a more forward position, however, continued to race wide and without cover. ART OF RAW also travelled wide and without cover until passing the 800 Metres. Near the 700 Metres, WHAMPOA STAR lay in towards the heels of MASTER BERNINI. At the 700 Metres, LUCKY WIN WIN was momentarily crowded for room inside MI BLANCO (A Sanna) which shifted in. A Sanna was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Near the 500 Metres, THE JOY OF GIVING momentarily raced in restricted room inside SPEEDY WALLY which got its head on the side and lay in. After this, SPEEDY WALLY commenced to hang in and proved difficult to ride. When SPEEDY WALLY lay in near the 500 Metres, ABOVE, which was following that horse, shifted out, improved into tight running between SPEEDY WALLY and LUCKY WIN WIN and bumped LUCKY WIN WIN. The performances of ART OF RAW and SURE SUPREME, both of which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ART OF RAW and SURE SUPREME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of THE JOY OF GIVING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY WALLY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. LUCKY WIN WIN and MI BLANCO were sent for sampling. <13/6/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>THE JOY OF GIVING, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. THE JOY OF GIVING was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C W Chang this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a restricted action with swollen both front fetlocks. Before being allowed to race again, THE JOY OF GIVING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

KANBEKI MOLLY was slow to begin, shifted out at the start and bumped STAR LUCK. This resulted in KANBEKI MOLLY losing further ground. BOND ELEGANCE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After beginning only fairly, STAR LUCK (Apprentice K H Chan) was then hard ridden to improve its position to be racing inside the heels of SKY TREASURE which shifted in. This resulted in STAR LUCK shifting in across the running of HEARTS KEEPER near the 1000 Metres, causing that horse to lose ground. Apprentice Chan was reprimanded and told that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should not have continued to attempt to improve inside SKY TREASURE where there was clearly insufficient room. FLYING GODSPELL lost its left front plate after the 1100 Metres. At the entrance to the Straight, LUNAR ZEPHYR was checked away from the heels of CORRE RAPIDO. Throughout the race, FLYING GODSPELL travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of LUNAR ZEPHYR in the early stages, K C Ng stated that he was instructed to obtain a forward position and it was expected that LUNAR ZEPHYR would be able to race in the first three. He said LUNAR ZEPHYR began awkwardly and shifted out towards the hindquarters of VERY LUCKY, resulting in the horse losing ground. He said when runners to his outside, namely VERY LUCKY and CORRE RAPIDO, showed more early speed than LUNAR ZEPHYR, this resulted in the horse racing much further back in the field than had been intended. He said when he rode the horse at its last start over the course and distance, it showed good early speed to lead the race, however, LUNAR ZEPHYR did not show the same early speed in tonight’s race. K C Ng was advised that his riding of LUNAR ZEPHYR in the early stages had come under notice and he must ensure that he rides his mounts with sufficient purpose to be able to take up a position in accordance with his instructions. A veterinary inspection of DATING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. STAR LUCK and GRAND HARBOUR were sent for sampling.

JOYFUL MOMENTS and MEGA HEART were slow to begin. SIMPLY BIG shifted out at the start and hampered NUCLEAR POWER. Making the turn near the 700 Metres, SIMPLY BIG got its head on the side, lay out towards the heels of STRATHCLYDE and lost ground. Throughout the race, STRATHCLYDE and CALIFORNIA GUNGHO travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice K H Chan (SIMPLY BIG) stated that he received a call from the rider of HANDSOME REBEL just prior to straightening and he was therefore reluctant to shift out rounding the Home Turn to improve to the outside of STRATHCLYDE. He said when STRATHCLYDE quickened in the early part of the Straight, he remained racing behind that horse until he was confident that SIMPLY BIG could shift to its outside without causing interference to runners to his outside which he was able to do passing the 300 Metres. When questioned regarding his riding of HANDSOME REBEL in the Straight, Z Purton stated that he rode his mount along vigorously after the 600 Metres and rounding the Home Turn to remain racing outside SIMPLY BIG. He said, despite being vigorously ridden, HANDSOME REBEL was unable to maintain its position outside that horse and SIMPLY BIG was able to quicken away from HANDSOME REBEL. He said after shifting to the outside of CALIFORNIA GUNGHO in the early part of the Straight, HANDSOME REBEL did not quicken and when MEGA HEART improved to the outside of HANDSOME REBEL after the 300 Metres, his mount got its head on the side and was inclined to lay in away from MEGA HEART. He added he balanced the horse and commenced to ride it out with the whip, however, HANDSOME REBEL finished off the race only fairly. Z Purton was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he must ride his mounts with sufficient vigour so as to ensure that his riding is not open to query. A veterinary inspection of HANDSOME REBEL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY TOUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. HANDSOME REBEL, MEGA HEART and SIMPLY BIG were sent for sampling.

On arrival at the Start, K C Leung expressed concern regarding the action of FIGHT HERO. After being examined by the Veterinary Officer, FIGHT HERO was found to be lame in its right hind leg and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, FIGHT HERO was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, FIGHT HERO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BIG TIME BABY began only fairly. From wide barriers, FORTUNE BOOTH and FANTASTIC FEELING were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Passing the 1000 Metres, BIG TIME BABY commenced to prove difficult to settle. BIG TIME BABY then continued to travel keenly and approaching the 800 Metres shifted out away from the heels of SPEED VISION. Then making the turn near the 700 Metres, BIG TIME BABY shifted out, struck the heels of UGLY WARRIOR and blundered badly, resulting in BIG TIME BABY losing ground. When BIG TIME BABY was checked, RAGING BLITZKRIEG, which was following that horse, was shifted out, resulting in ROYAL PERFORMER being inconvenienced. After the race, it was reported that UGLY WARRIOR had sustained an abrasion to the left hind gaskin. Throughout the race, JUMBO LUCK travelled wide and without cover and near the 250 Metres was momentarily crowded for room between PICK NUMBER ONE and RAGING BLITZKRIEG, both of which shifted ground. K Teetan was fined $5,000 for dropping his whip on UGLY WARRIOR approaching the 150 Metres. K Teetan was placed on notice that this was the 5th occasion this season that he had been reported to have dropped his whip in races. He was told that should he offend again prior to the end of the season, the Stewards may consider a more significant penalty. When questioned regarding his riding of FANTASTIC FEELING, M L Yeung stated that he was instructed to shift his mount across behind runners in the early stages and to shift it out rounding the Home Turn to close off the race. He said FANTASTIC FEELING began awkwardly and he then commenced to shift the horse across behind runners in the early stages as instructed. He said as FANTASTIC FEELING became somewhat detached from the field, he commenced to ride his mount along after the 1000 Metres to improve his position. He said he commenced to shift in making the turn near the 700 Metre, however, he received a call from the rider of FORTUNE BOOTH and therefore was required to remain racing to the outside of that horse. He said he rode his mount along hands and heels in the middle stages whilst slapping the horse down the shoulder repeatedly with the whip in the right hand. He said FANTASTIC FEELING did not quicken and in the early part of the Straight, despite being ridden along hands and heels, did not improve its position on the remainder of the field. He added as FANTASTIC FEELING was out of contention and was not, in his opinion, finishing off the race, he eased it down over the final 100 Metres. M L Yeung was advised that he must ride his mounts with sufficient purpose and vigour so as to ensure that his riding does not come under notice. After the race, Z Purton stated that LEAN PERFECTION was able to improve its position inside BIG TIME BABY when that horse shifted out making the turn near the 700 Metres. He said after initially quickening satisfactorily to obtain that run, LEAN PERFECTION momentarily raced tight inside BIG TIME BABY approaching and passing the 500 Metres. He said however the horse was reluctant to stretch out and did not finish off the race. He added he noted that LEAN PERFECTION did not trial impressively in the lead up to tonight’s race on a similarly rain affected surface. A veterinary inspection of LEAN PERFECTION immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LEAN PERFECTION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. UGLY WARRIOR and RAGING BLITZKRIEG were sent for sampling.

On arrival at the Start, it was noted that BUDDIES had blood at the mouth. When it could not be ascertained where the blood was emanating from, the tongue tie fitted to BUDDIES was removed. BUDDIES was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that the horse was suitable to race. A new tongue tie was then fitted to BUDDIES. After being loaded into the barriers, PERFECT TO PLAY became fractious and then as the start was effected began very awkwardly, resulting in its rider, C Schofield, becoming unbalanced. After this, PERFECT TO PLAY was shifted across behind runners. Also from wide barriers, LUCKY TIME and THE SUN ALSO RISES were shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover. BEAR SLAM lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and consequently lost ground. SUMSTREETSUMWHERE began awkwardly. LAST KINGDOM was steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover. CLEAR CHOICE lost its left front plate shortly after the start. In the early part of the Straight, PERFECT TO PLAY got its head on the side and lay out under pressure, resulting in its rider changing the whip over into his left hand passing the 250 Metres. Near the 150 Metres, THE SUN ALSO RISES was shifted out away from the heels of CHUNG WAH SPIRIT. Throughout the race, PING HAI TREASURE travelled wide and without cover. After the race, Z Purton reported that BUDDIES made an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination of BUDDIES did not reveal any significant findings. When questioned regarding the performance of TANG FLEMING, Apprentice K H Chan stated that after being unable to lead the race as instructed, TANG FLEMING appeared not to concentrate when racing amongst runners. He said TANG FLEMING travelled only fairly during the race and when following BUDDIES rounding the Home Turn was able to quicken with that horse. He said he placed TANG FLEMING under considerable pressure, however, the horse was very disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground in the Straight to finish at the rear of the field. The performance of TANG FLEMING, which finished second over the course and distance at its most recent start, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TANG FLEMING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of TANG FLEMING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT TO PLAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. KINGS SHIELD and BUDDIES were sent for sampling. <13/6/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>TANG FLEMING, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. TANG FLEMING was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C W Chang this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. As previously advised, TANG FLEMING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
