MISSION STRIKE (J377): Jumped only fairly. After the event, L Ferraris stated that his mount travelled satisfactorily in the early stages. He said near the 1200 Metres he allowed ACE WAR to stride forward where it obtained a position outside the lead passing the 1000 Metres. He added due to the manner in which it raced in the early stages ACE WAR was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the event, D McDonogh confirmed that from the inside barrier the instructions were to lead the event. HORSEPOWER (J431): Near the 150 Metres lay out and made contact with STAR PERFORMER which shifted in slightly. After the event, M Chadwick stated that whilst he was able to obtain cover during the race behind CIRCUIT JOLLY he was of the opinion that HORSEPOWER was disadvantaged by having no runner positioned to his inside as he believes HORSEPOWER races best when able to improve between runners as it did at its most recent start. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CAPITAL LEGEND (G333): Approaching the 100 Metres was eased when momentarily crowded between CALIFORNIA BLITZ and BLING BLING GENIUS (K Teetan) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. K Teetan was reprimanded. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight and the reason he elected to take a run to the inside of HAPPY UNIVERSE, H Bowman stated that after being taken wider near the 600 Metres when HAPPY UNIVERSE commenced to improve, CAPITAL LEGEND came under pressure and was responding only fairly to his riding at that point. He said after following HAPPY UNIVERSE into the Home Straight he elected to improve to that runner’s inside to avoid having to make more use of CAPITAL LEGEND to continue to shift out. He added CAPITAL LEGEND commenced to finish the race off reasonably well approaching the 100 Metres before being briefly crowded and its momentum haltered for a short distance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CHARMING LEGEND (K127): When questioned H Bowman stated that from a wide barrier he was given the instructions to endeavour to obtain a midfield position with cover if possible. He said although CHARMING LEGEND began well, when YUEN LONG ELITE showed good pace to his inside, he endeavoured to obtain a midfield position as instructed. He said when caught wide in the Back Straight and CHARMING LEGEND was racing keenly he elected to restrain his mount further to obtain cover behind SKY TRUST in order to encourage his mount to settle. He said as a result CHARMING LEGEND was positioned at the rear of the field although it settled once it obtained cover. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, H Bowman stated that after placing his mount under full pressure near the 450 Metres CHARMING LEGEND responded well to his riding and when he was satisfied that CHARMING LEGEND was at its top he used the whip sparingly as it continued to respond to his hands and heels riding. Trainer C S Shum was contacted in relation to the instructions issued. Mr Shum confirmed that connections had requested the horse be ridden in a midfield position in the early stages as CHARMING LEGEND had not finished the race off at its previous race start when ridden in a forward position due to it racing too keenly. After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Bowman were reasonable in the circumstances.
