GOLDEN CANNON was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, BUNDLE OF ENERGY bumped EVERYONE’S ELITE which began awkwardly. HIDDEN SPIRIT was crowded for room on jumping between MONEY WINNER and ASSOCIATION FANS which shifted in. From the outside barriers, HAPPY HOUR and SAVANNAH WIND were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After travelling a short distance, EVERYONE’S ELITE and MONEY WINNER bumped. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, MONEY WINNER raced tight outside the heels of EVERYONE’S ELITE when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse. Approaching the 1300 Metres, MONEY WINNER momentarily raced in restricted room outside the hindquarters of HIDDEN SPIRIT and inside SAVANNAH WIND which shifted in before being directed back out to relieve the tightening to MONEY WINNER. Passing the 1300 Metres, GOLD VELVET was left racing wide and without cover and passing the 1000 Metres was allowed to improve its positon to race closer to the lead, however, continued to race wide and without cover. Near the 1150 Metres, GOLDEN CANNON, which was travelling keenly, was checked away from the heels of IRISH VEGA. When GOLDEN CANNON was being checked away from the heels of IRISH VEGA, it shifted out and bumped BUNDLE OF ENERGY near the 1100 Metres. Near the 1050 Metres, HAPPY HOUR was shifted out away from the heels of MONEY WINNER. Passing the 700 Metres, BUNDLE OF ENERGY was awkwardly placed behind ASSOCIATION FANS. Passing the 600 Metres, HAPPY HOUR shifted out away from the heels of HIDDEN SPIRIT which lost ground after being awkwardly placed behind BUNDLE OF ENERGY. Approaching the 250 Metres, HIDDEN SPIRIT was shifted in away from the heels of GOLDEN CANNON. HIDDEN SPIRIT was then held up for clear running approaching the 200 Metres and passing the 200 Metres was shifted to the outside of GOLDEN CANNON to improve. HIDDEN SPIRIT was then awkwardly placed inside the heels of ASSOCIATION FANS when improving into tight running between that horse and MY DEAR near the 100 Metres. Because of these incidents, HIDDEN SPIRIT was not able to be fully tested. Passing the 200 Metres, ASSOCIATION FANS proved reluctant to shift to the outside of GOLD VELVET after being disappointed for running between that horse and MY DEAR. A veterinary inspection of BUNDLE OF ENERGY immediately following the race found that horse to have blood at its left nostril. An endoscopic examination of BUNDLE OF ENERGY confirmed the horse to be a bleeder. A veterinary inspection of IRISH VEGA immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”. BUNDLE OF ENERGY, KANBEKI MOLLY and EVERYONE’S ELITE were sent for sampling. <21/11/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that SAVANNAH WIND was acutely lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. Shortly after the start, STAR OF THEHARBOUR was steadied to obtain cover. A short distance after the start, MISCHIEVOUS SUNDAE shifted in and bumped LORIZ. COOLCELEB was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages. In the early stages, METHANE travelled wide and was left racing without cover after the 1000 Metres. METHANE was then allowed to improve its position passing the 900 Metres and shifted in to race outside the lead passing the 700 Metres at which stage SUNNY DRAGON was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the first turn, STAR OF THEHARBOUR got its head on the side and shifted in away from JUNZI (K C Leung) and bumped NUNCHUKS. STAR OF THEHARBOUR then commenced to prove very difficult to settle and shifted out abruptly away from the heels of JUNZI which got its head on the side and lay in across the heels of HARMONY N HOME. This resulted in NUNCHUKS, which was racing to the inside of STAR OF THEHARBOUR, being inconvenienced and MISCHIEVOUS SUNDAE being shifted out when STAR OF THEHARBOUR shifted out abruptly across the heels of JUNZI. After this, STAR OF THEHARBOUR continued to travel keenly. K C Leung was advised that whilst the racing manners of both STAR OF THEHARBOUR and JUNZI had played a large part in this incident, nonetheless he must ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. Approaching the 800 Metres, GOOD FOR YOU was awkwardly placed behind CONFUCIUS DAY. After the 800 Metres, HARMONY N HOME commenced to travel keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CASIMIRO until passing the 600 Metres. A veterinary inspection of COOLCELEB immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. A veterinary inspection of MISCHIEVOUS SUNDAE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. A veterinary inspection of JUNZI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LORIZ and CONFUCIUS DAY were sent for sampling. <21/11/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that HARMONY N HOME was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. THOU SHALL SING began only fairly. RIGHTEOUS MATE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of SPEEDY WALLY. SPEEDY WALLY and RIGHTEOUS MATE were then steadied to obtain cover from wide barriers. Also from the outside barriers, PLAY WISE and DARE TO DREAM were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages. After being crossed by STARLIT KNIGHT after the 1300 Metres, INDIGENOUS STAR travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed behind that horse. Approaching the 1200 Metres, DOR DOR was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of DREAM WARRIORS which shifted away from the rail. At the entrance to the Straight, SPEEDY WALLY was shifted in to avoid ELECTRIC LIGHTNING which was giving ground abruptly. Passing the 50 Metres, THOU SHALL SING was awkwardly placed outside the heels of STARLIT KNIGHT M F Poon (PLAY WISE) was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels all the way to the end of the race where appropriate circumstances permit. When questioned, S de Sousa stated it was explained to him that at its last start DREAM WARRIORS had weakened after travelling too keenly during the race. He said therefore he was asked to ensure that DREAM WARRIORS relaxed in tonight’s race and it was felt that STARLIT KNIGHT would lead the race which would provide DREAM WARRIORS with the opportunity to obtain a trailing positon behind that horse. He said DREAM WARRIORS began satisfactorily, however, did not show as much early speed as anticipated. He said he was reluctant to ride his mount along given the advice that it travelled too keenly at its last start and for this reason DREAM WARRIORS travelled slightly further back in the field than had been intended. After the race, Z Purton was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of STARLIT KNIGHT. He said the horse travelled satisfactorily, however, did not quicken at the top of the Straight as he anticipated and then over the concluding stages was disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground. A veterinary inspection of STARLIT KNIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING, L Hewitson stated that he had to make a similar amount of use of the horse in the early stages tonight that he did last time to obtain a forward position. He said after shifting in to race outside the lead after the 1300 Metres, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING relaxed nicely and travelled comfortably until after the 500 Metres at which time the horse came under pressure. He said he was concerned by the manner in which ELECTRIC LIGHTNING gave ground quickly rounding the Home Turn and by the early part of the Straight had already weakened noticeably. He added he rode ELECTRIC LIGHTNING along in the early part of the Straight, however, when the horse continued to give ground, he eased down on ELECTRIC LIGHTNING over the final 200 Metres as he felt that the horse may be experiencing internal issues. A veterinary inspection of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. STARLIT KNIGHT, INDIGENOUS STAR and RIGHTEOUS MATE were sent for sampling.

MULTIMAX, which was travelling keenly, made the turn after the 1000 Metres awkwardly and shifted out. As MULTIMAX shifted back in to race outside the lead after the 900 Metres, FLAME LILY was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. Passing the 500 Metres, MANAGEMENT STAR and CITY LEGEND bumped. Passing the 100 Metres, CITY LEGEND raced tight outside CASA DE FORCA which shifted out. When questioned regarding the performance of ENJOY LIFE, U Rispoli stated that after shifting the horse across behind runners in the early stages, ENJOY LIFE travelled satisfactorily until after the 800 Metres at which time the horse immediately came under pressure. He said he had to ride ENJOY LIFE along vigorously in an attempt to maintain its position behind DASHING DART, however, ENJOY LIFE did not respond to his riding and was most disappointing in the manner in which it did not improve its position rounding the Home Turn and then gave ground noticeably in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of ENJOY LIFE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of ENJOY LIFE, which finished towards the rear of the field and which finished second at its most recent start, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ENJOY LIFE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of MULTIMAX immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CASA DE FORCA, NABOO STAR and FOREVER BRIGHT were sent for sampling.

SMART LEADER and BREEDERS’ STAR made heavy contact on jumping, causing both horses to become badly unbalanced. After this, from a wide barrier, BREEDERS’ STAR was shifted across behind runners. From wide barriers, JOYFUL UNION and REEL BIZZY were also shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Shortly after the start, BEAUTY SPARK (Apprentice K H Chan) commenced to shift in, resulting in HARDLY SWEARS racing tight outside PERFECT GLORY. As Apprentice Chan attempted to straighten BEAUTY SPARK, he dropped his left rein which resulted in BEAUTY SPARK shifting in further as Apprentice Chan attempted to regather the rein. This resulted in HARDLY SWEARS being checked and losing ground near the 1150 Metres. When HARDLY SWEARS was checked, PREFECT GLORY became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by that horse. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that Apprentice Chan had attempted to straighten BEAUTY SPARK in a timely manner, he was told that he must continue to develop his riding skills to ensure that he is able to maintain appropriate control of his mounts to prevent causing interference. Making the turn after the 1100 Metres, SMART LEADER was steadied in an endeavour to obtain cover behind MR PICASSO. Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, MONKEY JEWELLERY became unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of FLYING SWORD which shifted out when making the turn awkwardly. Also near the 1050 Metres, JOYFUL UNION shifted in and made contact with HARDLY SWEARS which became unbalanced and shifted out, resulting in JOYFUL UNION momentarily racing in restricted room inside NATURAL WINNER. Approaching the 700 Metres, SMART LEADER was left racing wide and without cover. Shortly after entering the Straight, PERFECT GLORY momentarily raced tight inside BEAUTY SPARK which shifted in before being corrected. Passing the 400 Metres, REEL BIZZY was shifted to the inside of JADE THEATRE and was then steadied when disappointed for running between that horse and NATURAL WINNER. REEL BIZZY was then shifted to the inside of NATURAL WINNER approaching the 200 Metres to obtain clear running. M L Yeung (HARDLY SWEARS) pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 200 Metres when riding his mount out with the whip in the right hand, he directed HARDLY SWEARS out across the heels of MR PICASSO and into the rightful running of FLYING SWORD when not clear of that horse which resulted in FLYING SWORD being checked and being forced out onto NATURAL WINNER, causing that horse to be hampered and taken out onto JADE THEATRE which was checked when crowded for room inside MONKEY JEWELLERY. In this incident, SMART LEADER was bumped by HARDLY SWEARS as that horse shifted out. M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 27 November 2019 and to expire on Monday, 16 December 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (6 Hong Kong racedays). Approaching the 100 Metres, JOYFUL UNION was bumped by BEAUTY SPARK which shifted in. A veterinary inspection of BREEDERS’ STAR and JADE THEATRE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of MONKEY JEWELLERY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MONKEY JEWELLERY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PERFECT GLORY, HARDLY SWEARS and JOYFUL UNION were sent for sampling.

YEE CHEONG BABY and LOVING A BOOM were badly crowded for room between SAUL’S SPECIAL and MOMENT OF POWER which shifted out. In this incident, SAUL’S SPECIAL became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by LOVING A BOOM. After this, LOVING A BOOM and SAUL’S SPECIAL were both shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Shortly after the start, TORNADO TWIST and SUNNY BOY bumped. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SUNNY BOY was slow to muster speed whilst LITTLE BIRD also failed to muster speed. Passing the 900 Metres, SUNNY BOY got its head on the side and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CUE THE MUSIC. After the 700 Metres, REFINED TREASURE was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 600 Metres, SUNNY BOY was awkwardly placed behind SPEEDY KING. Passing the 500 Metres, LITTLE BIRD was inconvenienced by SUNNY BOY which was bumped by LOVING A BOOM (M Chadwick) which shifted out. M Chadwick was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he takes greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Passing the 200 Metres, TORNADO TWIST was shifted to the outside of MOMENT OF POWER which was giving ground. Passing the 50 Metres, SPEEDY KING raced tight inside LOVING A BOOM. When questioned regarding his riding of MOMENT OF POWER, Apprentice K H Chan stated that he was instructed to lead if possible and obtain the rail as MOMENT OF POWER had previously performed well when ridden in this manner. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount aggressively in the early stages in an attempt to cross SPEED VISION to his inside. He said he had hoped that by continuing to ride MOMENT OF POWER along after the 800 Metres, the rider of SPEED VISION would defer and allow MOMENT OF POWER to obtain the outright lead. He said he continued to ride his mount along until near the 600 Metres at which time it became apparent to him that he would not be able to clear SPEED VISION to race on the rail and that he would be required to remain racing to the outside of that horse. Apprentice Chan was advised that it should have been apparent to him near the 800 Metres that he did not have sufficient speed to be able to clear SPEED VISION to cross to the rail and that he should have desisted from riding MOMENT OF POWER along and accepted that MOMENT OF POWER would have to remain racing to that horse’s outside. He was severely reprimanded and told that his riding of MOMENT OF POWER during the relevant stages of the race was not up to the standard expected of a rider in Hong Kong, be they an apprentice jockey or a senior rider. Apprentice Chan was placed on notice regarding his riding of MOMENT OF POWER and told that he must ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner so that they can finish off their race as best as they are able. A veterinary inspection of LITTLE BIRD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. YEE CHEONG BABY, MR LUMIERES and LOVING A BOOM were sent for sampling.

From wide barriers, JADE FORTUNE and PERFECT TO PLAY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. SURREALISM and MR ALDAN were also steadied to obtain cover shortly after the start. Passing the 1400 Metres, AMAZING LUCK was awkwardly placed behind RELIABLE TEAM and then near the 1300 Metres was crowded for room between SUMSTREETSUMWHERE and BIG BANG BONG which shifted out to alleviate pressure on CINQUANTE CINQ. SURREALISM, which was following CINQUANTE CINQ, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence, resulting in MR ALDAN racing tight inside PICKEN. SUMSTREETSUMWHERE travelled wide and without cover until the 900 Metres at which time the horse improved its position to race outside the lead. At the entrance to the Straight, PICKEN and AMAZING LUCK bumped. Passing the 300 Metres, SURREALISM was shifted to the inside of CINQUANTE CINQ. SURREALISM was then held up for a run passing the 200 Metres and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MONSTER KAKA near the 150 Metres when shifting to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running passing the 100 Metres. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of AMAZING LUCK, S de Sousa stated that the tempo of the race in the middle stages was not overly quick and therefore he elected after the 700 Metres to shift to the outside of RELIABLE TEAM in order to improve his position around that horse. He said as AMAZING LUCK improved around RELIABLE TEAM, that horse shifted out after the 600 Metres, resulting in AMAZING LUCK being taken wider. He said after this AMAZING LUCK came under heavy pressure and then was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of JADE FORTUNE and MR ALDAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. RELIABLE TEAM and CINQUANTE CINQ were sent for sampling.

On arrival at the Start, H T Mo expressed concern regarding the action of ROMAN IMPERO. After the necessary consultations, the Veterinary Officer said that, in his opinion, ROMAN IMPERO was suitable to race. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ROMAN IMPERO had sustained a small laceration to the outside of the left hind fetlock. HARRIER JET was checked on jumping when crowded for room between ROMAN IMPERO and FORZA ANGEL which shifted in after being bumped by WINNING METHOD (G van Niekerk). In this incident, both FORZA ANGEL and ROMAN IMPERO were hampered. G van Niekerk will be reprimanded and told that whilst the horse did jump in at the start, nonetheless he has an obligation to straighten his mounts in order to ensure that they do not cause interference to other runners. From the outside barrier, SHINING ACE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1100 Metres, ROMAN IMPERO shifted out, resulting in FORZA ANGEL being crowded for room inside WINNING METHOD which became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by FORZA ANGEL. A short distance later, ROMAN IMPERO was steadied away from the heels of LONE EAGLE which was taken out marginally by INTERSTELLAR. Approaching the 700 Metres, INTERSTELLAR momentarily raced in restricted room inside LONE EAGLE which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HAPPY TIME. Near the 650 Metres, INTERSTELLAR and AURORA PEGASUS raced tight. Passing the 400 Metres, LONE EAGLE momentarily raced tight inside WINNING METHOD. When being shifted to the outside of HAPPY TIME shortly after entering the Straight, SOLOMON’S BAY lay in and was reluctant to shift to the outside of that horse which resulted in SOLOMON’S BAY striking the heels of HAPPY TIME and stumbling near the 250 Metres and consequently losing ground. Throughout the race, WINNING METHOD travelled wide and without cover. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in to establish whether contact between SHINING ACE and AURORA PEGASUS, the dead heat winners for this race, should proceed to a formal protest/objection hearing. Prior to the Stewards giving consideration to the matter, Mr C Fownes, the trainer of AURORA PEGASUS and A Badel, the rider of that horse, viewed the videos and elected not to enter a protest/objection. It was established that SHINING ACE had come from some distance behind AURORA PEGASUS to improve to that horse’s outside approaching the 50 Metres. It was further found that passing the 50 Metres SHINING ACE shifted in and made minimal contact with AURORA PEGASUS. The two horses then finished off the race without any further contact. As the Stewards formed the view that contact between the two horses was slight and had no bearing on the outcome of the race, they elected not to proceed to a formal protest/objection hearing and declared weighed-in on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. The Stewards will question K Teetan regarding the disappointing performance of HAPPY TIME which weakened in the Straight to finish at the rear of the field prior to the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday, 23 November 2019. In the meantime, the performance of HAPPY TIME, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY TIME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY TIME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of LONE EAGLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LONE EAGLE, SHINING ACE and AURORA PEGASUS were sent for sampling. <1/12/2019 20 November 2019 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 9 (188)>The Stewards today interviewed K Teetan regarding the poor performance of HAPPY TIME. He said he was given two sets of instructions on how HAPPY TIME should be ridden, the first being to obtain a forward position if the horse began well. He said however that if HAPPY TIME was slow to begin as it had done in some of its previous races, he was told to ride the horse quietly. He said it was anticipated that WINNING METHOD, which was drawn directly inside of HAPPY TIME, would take up a forward position and that if HAPPY TIME began well he would follow that horse across to obtain a forward position. He said HAPPY TIME began satisfactorily and therefore he elected to commit to obtain a forward position. He said HAPPY TIME began better than WINNING METHOD and he attempted to cross that horse in the early stages, however, WINNING METHOD remained racing inside the hindquarters of HAPPY TIME. He said making the turn after the 1100 Metres HAPPY TIME was racing very wide, however, by this time he had committed to going forward and it was not a reasonable option for him to steady HAPPY TIME in an attempt to obtain cover. He said he therefore had to continue to press forward and it was not until after the 700 Metres that he was able to shift across to race into a position closer to the inside rail. He said because it took so long to obtain a forward position he was then not able to give HAPPY TIME a breather during the middle stages and HAPPY TIME then came under pressure prior to the 400 Metres and weakened in the Straight. He added, in his opinion, the performance of the horse could be solely attributable to the amount of use that he had to make of HAPPY TIME in the early and middle stages.
