As the start was effected, SUNSHINE LEGENDARY became fractious and as a result was slow to begin.
YOUNG SPARKLE jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
From a wide barrier, TRAVEL GLORY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
From the outside barrier, EAGLE RUN was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Then making the first turn near the 1000 Metres, EAGLE RUN commenced to race keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from JAZZ STEED. EAGLE RUN continued to race keenly in the middle stages and near the 800 Metres again got its head up when being checked away from the heels of SUNSHINE LEGENDARY.
Near the 600 Metres, GENEROUS FRIEND was momentarily crowded by HAPPY GATHERING which was racing tight to the inside of YOUNG SPARKLE.
EAGLE RUN had difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance after the 500 Metres when positioned behind GENEROUS FRIEND.
After the 400 Metres, JACK WIN lay in and made contact with EAGLE RUN.
Near the 300 Metres, YOUNG SPARKLE and ORIENTAL SPIRIT bumped.
Near the 200 Metres, HAPPY GATHERING went amiss and fell, dislodging its rider, H Bowman. GENEROUS FRIEND, which was following and positioned to the inside of HAPPY GATHERING, was hampered as a consequence. After the race, HAPPY GATHERING was found to have sustained an injury to its left front fetlock. H Bowman was subsequently examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements.
The performance of GENEROUS FRIEND, which finished tailed out on the second occasion in recent starts, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GENEROUS FRIEND will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GENEROUS FRIEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, M Dee (CIRCUIT SPLENDOR) reported that his mount obtained a favourable position throughout the early stages behind the lead, but was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection of CIRCUIT SPLENDOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, JACK WIN was noted to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. A veterinary inspection of JACK WIN immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”.
THETA HEDGE, VIVA A LA and YOUNG SPARKLE were sent for sampling. Samples were also taken from HAPPY GATHERING.
