KING SHOWThis gelding showed encouraging signs in a series of barrier trials leading up to its recent comeback race. The initial trial on March 13th (dirt, 1050m) saw it take the lead and finish strongly, displaying both improvement and stamina – recording times of 1-1-1. Further dirt trials on February 27th (1200m, finishing 2nd with a strong late push - 2-2-3) and February 4th (1200m, weakening to finish towards the rear - 9-10-10), indicated varying levels of performance. Turf trials on February 21st (1000m, mid-pack effort - 4-7-6) and January 2nd (1200m, showing immaturity under pressure - 5-6-9) highlighted inconsistencies. A December 17th turf trial (1000m) showed reluctance to extend – finishing towards the rear (8-8-7). Its last outing on the Sha Tin turf over 1400m was disappointing, settling in a mid-field position with an even pace but failing to quicken and ultimately finishing well back. The horse has undergone a significant weight loss of twenty pounds following a spell and has been prepared with six barrier trials which have shown improvement. Facing a challenging draw and a time difference disadvantage against rivals in this upcoming Sha Tin 1200m turf race, despite receiving a four-pound relief, the gelding appears to face an uphill battle. While the inside barrier is advantageous, overall form suggests it won’t be a leading contender.
