A recent trial at Conghua (dirt, 1200m) on March 13th saw Automatic Wave finishing strongly with plenty in hand – recording sections of 4-3-3. Five weeks prior, the gelding disappointed over a Happy Valley mile, slow to break and settling towards the rear, though maintaining a consistent pace without showing significant acceleration. A subsequent turf trial at Sha Tin proved acceptable. This time around, stepping out onto the turf with no weight penalty, he drew an outside barrier in what looks a competitive heat. While the draw isn’t ideal, connections are visibly stepping up his work and, as an outsider, warrants consideration.
