Steward Report Predict Pace Map
PACIFIC ALLIANCE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of SUPER POWER. KEEN SPIRIT, which was travelling keenly, hung out making the turn at the 800 Metres. At the 300 Metres, PACIFIC ALLIANCE, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the inside of REAL REJOICING. The performance of PUERTO RICO, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PUERTO RICO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred while the Stewards considered whether ROCKALOT had had an unfair start. The evidence disclosed that after being boxed ROCKALOT became fractious and was being assisted by a stalls attendant. As the gates opened, ROCKALOT which continued to be assisted by the stalls attendant bounded in the air and on landing planted for a short time. As a consequence, W C Marwing, the rider of ROCKALOT, was dislodged and ROCKALOT then completed the race riderless. In the opinion of the Stewards, ROCKALOT had not had an unfair start and therefore was deemed a runner. Weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Before being allowed to race again, ROCKALOT will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. When questioned, M Chadwick (SUPER POWER) said he had been instructed to ride his mount in a handy position. He said after being bumped on jumping by PACIFIC ALLIANCE, SUPER POWER did not muster. He said passing the 1600 Metres he considered shifting across to race on the rail, however, at that time he received a call from the rider of PACIFIC ALLIANCE which was improving towards his inside. He said for him to have cleared PACIFIC ALLIANCE would have required him to make use of his mount which in his opinion was not travelling well enough to do so, he therefore continued to race in the one off position. Y T Cheng (VITALITY CHAMP) explained he had been instructed to ride his mount with cover if possible. He said in accordance with those instructions he did not ride VITALITY CHAMP along in the early stages as in the past the horse had on occasions proved difficult to settle. He said in the early stages he obtained a position with cover, however, after the 1600 Metres VITALITY CHAMP commenced to over-race and proved difficult for him to settle. He said near the 1400 Metres VITALITY CHAMP pulled its way forward to race outside LIGHTNING MOUNT in a three wide position. He said after the 1200 Metres he was carried into a four wide position without cover when LIGHTNING MOUNT shifted out on his inside. He said as VITALITY CHAMP was continuing to prove difficult to settle, he allowed his mount to stride forward making the turn at the 800 Metres. He said VITALITY CHAMP continued to race wide and without cover outside the lead prior to giving ground in the Home Straight. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CHINSOLA, G Mossé said he was instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said because of the tempo of the early stages of the race CHINSOLA got back to a position behind midfield. He said CHINSOLA travelled only fairly throughout the run and on straightening gave no response when placed under pressure. Mr L Ho, trainer of CHINSOLA, was not able to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said the track work of CHINSOLA since it was successful at its most recent start had pleased him and on the strength of this work he had advised the owner of CHINSOLA that he thought the horse had a strong winning chance. Mr Ho did say CHINSOLA which was racing in blinkers reapplied last start appeared to show more interest on that occasion and consequently was able to travel further forward. He said today CHINSOLA despite being ridden along in the early stages had failed to muster speed and the manner in which it raced indicated to him that it did not have the same freshness when racing in blinkers again today. When questioned regarding the poor performance of GALAXY DANCER, H W Lai said he led on his mount as instructed. He said GALAXY DANCER raced keenly with other runners travelling to his outside and in the middle stages hung out. He said prior to straightening GALAXY DANCER was headed and immediately was reluctant to stride out. He said as other runners improved in the early part of the Straight GALAXY DANCER continued to give ground and because of this he did not ride his mount out to the end of the race. He said in the past GALAXY DANCER had shown a reluctance to stride out when among other horses. Mr K W Lui, the trainer of GALAXY DANCER, said the horse in the past had shown itself to perform best when able to obtain an uncontested lead. He said GALAXY DANCER had previously performed poorly when horses had travelled to its outside in the run. The performance of GALAXY DANCER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GALAXY DANCER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PUERTO RICO and GALAXY DANCER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PUERTO RICO and GALAXY DANCER after the race did not show any significant findings. LOHAN and LAZY BUDDIES were sent for sampling.
