Steward Report Predict Pace Map
WINNING FELLOWSHIP was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between CRYSTAL which shifted in and MERIDIAN PRIDE which shifted out after being bumped by MOMENTOUS. In the early stages, ABOVE ALL was taken back from an outside draw. Shortly after straightening, JADE DRAGONFLY was crowded for room between HIGH INTELLIGENT which shifted out and KING FAY FAY which shifted to the inside of the heels of SUPER CHARGE which was giving ground. From the 400 Metres until after the 300 Metres, BEST POWER was held up and unable to obtain clear running. At the 50 Metres, BEST POWER, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted to the inside of LUMINOUS to continue going forward. Just prior to the winning post, FOREST FOUNTAIN was steadied when crowded for room between ABOVE ALL and STOLEN THUNDER. The performance of SUPER CHARGE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER CHARGE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, MERIDIAN PRIDE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance of LUMINOUS, Trainer P O'Sullivan explained that at its most recent start LUMINOUS when racing over 1200 Metres at Happy Valley with the rail in the C+3 position was having its first start since joining his stable. He said on that occasion the intention was to have the horse which had drawn a wide barrier ridden in a forward position. He said an incident shortly after the start resulted in LUMINOUS travelling behind midfield in that race and the horse, after encountering interference at the 100 Metres, closed the race off only fairly. He said the intention today was to race LUMINOUS in a 1400 Metres race, however, when the horse was balloted out of the race for which it had entered, he decided to transfer it to this race over 1600 Metres. He said with the increase in distance LUMINOUS was able to obtain a forward position. He said in his opinion whilst the win of LUMINOUS was a surprise to him, he believed it was due to the increase in distance of today's race. O Doleuze (MAVERICK) explained he was instructed to ride the horse quietly, the same as in its recent starts. He said in accordance with those instructions he took it back in the early stages, however, today MAVERICK closed the race off only fairly. He said at its last start of the previous season he had ridden MAVERICK over the same course and distance from the rear and on that occasion the horse had closed the race off strongly. He said first up this season MAVERICK was again ridden quietly in a small field and finished the race off fairly. He said today MAVERICK disappointed him in the manner in which it closed the race off given that it had relaxed nicely in the run. WINNING FELLOWSHIP, MAVERICK, MERIDIAN PRIDE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MERIDIAN PRIDE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of WINNING FELLOWSHIP and MAVERICK after the race did not show any significant findings. KING FAY FAY, LUMINOUS and JADE DRAGONFLY were sent for sampling. The Stewards will afford D Beadman an opportunity of explaining the poor performance of WINNING FELLOWSHIP prior to Race 1 at the Happy Valley racemeeting next Tuesday 4 November 2008.
