Steward Report Predict Pace Map
Before leaving the Parade Ring, GO BRITANNIA became fractious, reared and dislodged O Doleuze, its rider. In this incident, GO BRITANNIA lost its left hind plate. GO BRITANNIA was replated and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. O Doleuze was uninjured. BRILLIANT FLASH was slow to begin. On jumping, GO BRITANNIA got its head up and lost ground. In the early stages, GO BRITANNIA hung in, then made the turn at the 1000 Metres awkwardly and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CONGRATULATION. As a consequence of this, some inconvenience was caused to PROPELLOR which was racing to the outside of GO BRITANNIA. Shortly after entering the Back Straight, PROPELLOR was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TRULLI which got its head on the side and shifted in. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the opinion an incident occurred after the 800 Metres which cast doubt on whether CONGRATULATION (D Whyte) ought be declared the winner. B Prebble, the rider of BEAUTIFUL DREAMER, placed 2nd, also lodged a protest/objection against CONGRATULATION being declared the winner alleging interference after the 800 Metres. The evidence disclosed that after the 800 Metres CONGRATULATION, which was hanging in, shifted ground despite the efforts of its rider when not clear of BEAUTIFUL DREAMER, resulting in BEAUTIFUL DREAMER being checked. As the Stewards were of the opinion had the interference which did take place not occurred, BEAUTIFUL DREAMER would have finished in front of CONGRATULATION, the protest/objection was sustained and CONGRATULATION was placed immediately behind BEAUTIFUL DREAMER. Accordingly the amended placings became No. 4 BEAUTIFUL DREAMER, 1st; No. 12 CONGRATULATION, 2nd; No. 10 TEAM WORK, 3rd; and No. 11 KINGSTON WINNER, 4th. When BEAUTIFUL DREAMER checked after the 800 Metres, HURRAY HURRAY, which was following, was checked in consequence and inconvenience was also caused to GO BRITANNIA and BRILLIANT FLASH. Prior to straightening, TEAM WORK was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINE WIN which commenced to give ground. In the early part of the Straight, BEAUTIFUL DREAMER raced tight inside TEAM WORK which shifted ground while hanging in. For a considerable distance approaching the 200 Metres, HURRAY HURRAY was checked away from the heels of WINE WIN when disappointed for running between that horse and CLASSA FOR EVER, both of which were giving ground. Near the 200 Metres, PROPELLOR, which was endeavouring to obtain clear running, was steadied away from the heels of BRILLIANT FLASH which itself was steadied when disappointed for running between GO BRITANNIA and CLASSA FOR EVER. After the 200 Metres, BEAUTIFUL DREAMER was shifted to the inside of DRAGON AND GOLD to continue going forward. Throughout the race, CLASSA FOR EVER travelled wide and without cover and finished tailed out. CLASSA FOR EVER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CLASSA FOR EVER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a cut to the outside of its left front cannon. The performance of CLASSA FOR EVER was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, CLASSA FOR EVER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of WINE WIN, G Mossé explained because of the anticipated strong pace of tonight’s race, he was instructed that it would be acceptable for him to take a sit off the leader if the pace of the race was strong. He said in his opinion DRAGON AND GOLD showed a clear intention to lead in the early stages and shortly after entering the Back Straight when CLASSA FOR EVER improved around his outside, he felt it was in his best interest not to be involved in a speed battle with those horses. He said he therefore allowed CLASSA FOR EVER to cross him. He said WINE WIN travelled only fairly, then approaching the Home Turn when CLASSA FOR EVER commenced to give ground and shift out, he immediately steadied his mount and shifted to the inside of that horse to save him being carried unnecessarily wide. He said after this WINE WIN did not respond to his riding. WINE WIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WINE WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. CONGRATULATION and BEAUTIFUL DREAMER were sent for sampling.
