At declaration time, A Badel was declared as the rider of both GOLD TACK and PALACE PAL. It was established that A Badel had a firm commitment to ride PALACE PAL. As such, the Stewards permitted H Bowman to be substituted as the rider of GOLD TACK. For this declaration error, Trainer A T Millard was fined $2,000. TURQUOISE ALPHA was slow to begin and then was crowded between OSCAR GLORY and PALACE PAL which shifted in. SURREALISM was slow to begin. GOLD TACK shifted out at the start, crowding DEAR SIBLING, resulting in DEAR SIBLING then making contact with VINCY. DEAR SIBLING and VINCY were then shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 400 Metres, PACKING HURRICANE (K Teetan)was shifted to the inside of REGENCY MASTER to obtain clear running. Then approaching the 200 Metres, PACKING HURRICANE endeavoured to obtain running between OSCAR GLORY which was giving ground and REGENCY MASTER where there was doubtful room. When REGENCY MASTER held its position, PACKING HURRICANE was checked to avoid the heels of OSCAR GLORY when disappointed for this run. In this incident, PACKING HURRICANE made contact with REGENCY MASTER, resulting in REGENCY MASTER becoming unbalanced. K Teetan was advised to ensure that there is sufficient room to improve in similar circumstances. Near the 200 Metres, SURREALISM was directed to the outside of REGENCY MASTER to secure clear running. Approaching the 50 Metres, ROBOT WARRIOR went amiss before being eased down by its rider, K C Leung, who quickly dismounted. After the race, it was reported that ROBOT WARRIOR had sustained an injury to its right front fetlock. GOLD TACK raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. After the race, L Ferraris (OSCAR GLORY) reported that his mount raced keenly in the lead and was difficult to settle. A veterinary inspection of OSCAR GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FOREVER GLORIOUS and GOLD TACK were sent for sampling. Samples were also taken from ROBOT WARRIOR.
