MIGHTY GIANT was ridden along for some distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position. Approaching and passing the 700 Metres, CHAMPION’S WAY was steadied away from the heels of WAIKUKU. Near the 650 Metres, WAIKUKU was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEALTHY HAPPY as that horse shifted to the outside of MIGHTY GIANT. After the race, it was reported that GOLDEN SIXTY was showing signs of mild heat stress. GOLDEN SIXTY and CALIFORNIA SPANGLE were sent for sampling.
