Trainer K L Man was fined the sum of $10,000 for breaching Trainers’ Handbook Regulation 40 in that he entered SPICY SKEWER (G202) for a barrier trial at Sha Tin on Tuesday, 22 March 2022 when that horse was the second Standby Declared Starter for this race. CONCERTO lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and consequently was slow to begin. SHADOW RUNNER began awkwardly and lost ground. MIRACLE VICTORY shifted in at the start, resulting in SEE U AGAIN and EXCELLENT PEERS being hampered. From wide barriers, WINS ALL and LUCKY QUALITY were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. When racing wide making the first turn after the 1100 Metres, MIRACLE VICTORY got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover behind SEE U AGAIN passing the 1000 Metres. Passing the 700 Metres, WIND SPEEDER was awkwardly placed behind MIRACLE VICTORY. SUPER KINGDOM made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly. Throughout the race, STREET SCREAM travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of EXCELLENT PEERS, Z Purton stated that after beginning well, he was able to take up a forward position without having to make too much use of the horse. He said EXCELLENT PEERS travelled keenly along the Back Straight and whilst the horse relaxed better after being crossed by SEE U AGAIN passing the 700 Metres, it was never comfortable on tonight’s surface. He said he shifted EXCELLENT PEERS to the outside of SEE U AGAIN rounding the Home Turn to obtain clear running, however, the horse did not finish the race off which he attributed to his mount failing to handle the "Yielding” surface tonight. A veterinary inspection of EXCELLENT PEERS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of MIRACLE VICTORY and LUCKY QUALITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. EXCELLENT PEERS, TRIPLE TRIPLE and STORMTROUPER were sent for sampling.
