At the time of declaration, L Ferraris (BEAR AGAIN, 118 lbs) notified a probable overweight of 1 lb. At the time of weighing out, L Ferraris requested a further pound overweight which is permitted under the Rules. L Ferraris then weighed in at 121 lbs, 3 lbs over the horse’s allocated weight. Jockey Ferraris was fined the sum of $7,500.
On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie applied to KILINDINI was replaced.
SUNSHINE WARRIOR began only fairly.
From the outside barrier, KILINDINI was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
SUNNY STAR was also steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TELECOM FIGHTERS bumped the hindquarters of SOLAR WAI WAI due to both horses shifting ground. After this, SOLAR WAI WAI got its head on the side and lay in away from TELECOM FIGHTERS, resulting in SOLAR WAI WAI being awkwardly placed outside the heels of BEAR AGAIN passing the 1400 Metres. SOLAR WAI WAI then continued to race with its head on the side and lay in.
Passing the 1000 Metres, SOLAR WAI WAI was awkwardly placed behind TELECOM FIGHTERS.
Approaching the 100 Metres, THE ROCK was steadied when disappointed for running between BEAR AGAIN which was giving ground and SOLAR WAI WAI which lay in under pressure.
SAVAQUIN lost its right front plate after the race.
A veterinary inspection of THE ROCK, SAVAQUIN and BEAR AGAIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BELUGA, SUNNY STAR and TELECOM FIGHTERS were sent for sampling.
