CALIFORNIA CIBLE, which made contact with a rail on the way to the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race. TELECOM SMART shifted out at the start and bumped MOMENTUM GALAXY. CALIFORNIA CIBLE was crowded for room on jumping between WINNING METHOD and BE READY which shifted out. After this, despite being ridden along, CALIFORNIA CIBLE failed to muster speed. From the outside barrier, STOICISM was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. CLASSIC POSH was also steadied on jumping to obtain cover. After travelling a short distance, MOMENTUM GALAXY raced in restricted room between TELECOM SMART which shifted out marginally and HONG KONG BET which shifted in. Near the 1050 Metres, MOMENTUM GALAXY lost ground when crowded for room between TELECOM SMART which shifted out marginally and JAZZ STEED (C Y Ho) which got its head on the side and lay in away from SUNSHINE SUPREME. C Y Ho was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances. Near the 750 Metres, MOMENTUM GALAXY commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of JAZZ STEED. Approaching the 200 Metres, TELECOM SMART was shifted to the inside of HONG KONG BET after being disappointed for running outside that horse. Passing the 200 Metres, MOMENTUM GALAXY was shifted out away from the heels of SUNSHINE SUPREME to obtain clear running. TELECOM SMART was held up for clear running approaching and passing the 100 Metres. Close to the finishing line, SPECIAL M raced in restricted room between HONG KONG BET and CLASSIC POSH which improved into tight running between SPECIAL M and JOLLY GOOD HEART. Because of this, SPECIAL M was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. After the race, M Chadwick stated that it was hoped that WINNING METHOD would be able to show sufficient speed in the early stages to clear a number of runners to its inside and obtain a forward position. He said after riding his mount along, WINNING METHOD did not show sufficient speed to be able to clear runners to its inside and consequently travelled wide and without cover throughout and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of WINNING METHOD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of BE READY and JAZZ STEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. HONG KONG BET, JOLLY GOOD HEART and CALIFORNIA CIBLE were sent for sampling.
