PEARL CHAMPION shifted out at the start and bumped COPARTNER ERA. FAST PACE stumbled at the start, shifted out and bumped LEADING FORTUNE. After this, LEADING FORTUNE was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. FLYING SWORD shifted out at the start and bumped FREE FOAL which became unbalanced. SUPER HONG KONG began only fairly. A short distance after the start, WISDOM PATCH shifted out and bumped EVER LAUGH. From the outside barrier, BRAVE KING was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Approaching the 800 Metres, EL JEFE raced tight inside the hindquarters of WISDOM PATCH which got its head on the side and lay in away from the heels of FREE FOAL. Approaching the 600 Metres, EL JEFE became unbalanced when reluctant to improve inside WISDOM PATCH. After the 300 Metres, COPARTNER ERA was shifted out away from SEAWEED FORTUNE which was directed out by FAST PACE. Over the final 50 Metres, SUPER HONG KONG was not able to obtain clear running and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. Throughout the race, EVER LAUGH travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, H N Wong stated that after the 1400 Metres he commenced to shift FAST PACE in to obtain a position behind FLYING SWORD and in front of SEAWEED FORTUNE. He said however that at this time SEAWEED FORTUNE maintained its position inside the heels of FAST PACE and he was not immediately able to shift in to obtain the position in front of that horse. He said after the 1300 Metres he had improved his position sufficiently to be able to clear SEAWEED FORTUNE, however, at this time FLYING SWORD was eased by its rider to allow FREE FOAL to cross which resulted in him being unable to shift in behind that horse approaching the 1200 Metres. He said FAST PACE was then left racing wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. COPARTNER ERA and FREE FOAL were sent for sampling.
