LAKESHORE EAGLE was slow to begin. AMAZING CHOCOLATE began only fairly. SUNSHINE WARRIOR began awkwardly and stumbled at the start. BIGWOOD began awkwardly and got its head up on jumping. After this, BIGWOOD was steadied to obtain cover. CIRCUIT THREE shifted out at the start and bumped THE ROCK. After this, CIRCUIT THREE was also steadied to obtain cover. Passing the 1500 Metres, BIGWOOD was awkwardly placed behind LOOKING GREAT. CHARITY GO, which was following BIGWOOD, was inconvenienced in consequence. After the 1100 Metres, CIRCUIT THREE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of CHARITY GO. After the 1000 Metres, FLAGSHIP GLORY commenced to prove very difficult to settle and shifted out away from the heels of SMILING TIME and in doing so bumped LOOKING GREAT. Despite the efforts of its rider, FLAGSHIP GLORY continued to prove very difficult to settle and would not relax, resulting in FLAGSHIP GLORY and LOOKING GREAT bumping on a number of occasions and LOOKING GREAT being forced to race wide and without cover near the 900 Metres. As the Stewards were satisfied that this incident was due to the racing manners of FLAGSHIP GLORY, no further action was taken. Passing the 400 Metres, BIGWOOD was shifted out away from the heels of SAVAQUIN which was taken out by FLAGSHIP GLORY. Passing the 200 Metres, SMILING TIME shifted out under pressure and bumped AMAZING CHOCOLATE. AMAZING CHOCOLATE then raced tight passing the 150 Metres between SMILING TIME and LAKESHORE EAGLE. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CHARITY GO, A Badel stated that after being shifted across behind runners in the early stages from a wide barrier, CHARITY GO travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages. He said he commenced to improve his position after the 700 Metres wide on the track in an endeavour to take closer order to the leaders, however, CHARITY GO responded only fairly to his riding rounding the Home Turn. He added after placing CHARITY GO under full pressure at the entrance to the Straight, the horse was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of CHARITY GO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
