ULTRA EXPRESS began only fairly and then despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages failed to muster speed.
From a wide barrier, STUNNING IMPACT was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
After being steadied from a wide barrier in an attempt to obtain cover in the early stages, JIMMU was left racing wide and without cover passing the 1000 Metres.
Approaching and passing the 1100 Metres, MALDIVES was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of BREEZE OF SPRING when proving difficult to settle. After this, MALDIVES continued to travel keenly and passing the 900 Metres was again awkwardly placed close to the heels of BREEZE OF SPRING. MALDIVES again commenced to travel keenly after the 700 Metres.
Passing the 500 Metres, FREE FOAL raced tight outside RUN DES RUN which shifted out away from the heels of RUN RUN GOOD.
Passing the 400 Metres, RUN DES RUN got its head on the side and lay in, resulting in MALDIVES being inconvenienced.
Near the 350 Metres, MALDIVES raced tight between LEADING FORTUNE and RUN DES RUN which continued to lay in. A short distance after this, MALDIVES was crowded for room between RUN DES RUN and LEADING FORTUNE which, after shifting out from behind CALIFORNIA LEGEND, became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by MALDIVES and shifted out further. This resulted in LEADING FORTUNE having to be corrected by its rider and RUN DES RUN becoming unbalanced after being bumped by MALDIVES. Near the 150 Metres, MALDIVES was then shifted out away from the heels of RUN RUN GOOD to obtain clear running.
After initially being directed to the outside of SHANGHAI DRAGON approaching the 150 Metres, ULTRA EXPRESS was then directed to the inside of that horse near the 100 Metres to obtain clear running.
Passing the 150 Metres, CALIFORNIA LEGEND was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of LIGHT OF WANSHI.
A veterinary inspection of DECISIVE ACTION, LEADING FORTUNE and STUNNING IMPACT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SHANGHAI DRAGON and ULTRA EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
