SUPERBELLA was crowded for room on jumping between CHARIZARD and RED BRICK FIGHTER, both of which shifted ground. After this, RED BRICK FIGHTER (M F Poon) was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed. After the race, M F Poon confirmed that the intention had been for RED BRICK FIGHTER to be ridden in a forward position, however, due to the manner in which the horse began, RED BRICK FIGHTER was obliged to race further back in the field than had been intended.
BRIGHT KID began only fairly.
From a wide barrier, EVER LAUGH was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
For some distance after the 1200 Metres, CIGAR BUDDIES travelled keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to obtain cover behind HAPPY FORTUNE. Then after the 1100 Metres, CIGAR BUDDIES, which was continuing to race ungenerously, got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly, resulting in RED BRICK FIGHTER being crowded for room. CIGAR BUDDIES was then shifted out abruptly to relieve the tightening to RED BRICK FIGHTER.
HAPPY FORTUNE travelled wide and without cover until near the 800 Metres.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, CALIFORNIA LEVEE and HAPPY WARRIOR raced tight.
For some distance approaching and passing the 500 Metres, CHARIZARD was unable to improve when racing behind HAPPY FORTUNE which came under pressure. RED BRICK FIGHTER was awkwardly placed behind CHARIZARD and CIGAR BUDDIES in consequence. After this, HAPPY FORTUNE continued to give ground and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HAPPY FORTUNE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY FORTUNE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the 400 Metres, MISTER ARM and EVER LAUGH made contact, resulting in MISTER ARM becoming unbalanced. MISTER ARM then shifted out rounding the Home Turn and bumped the hindquarters of EVER LAUGH which became unbalanced.
Also after the 400 Metres, RED BRICK FIGHTER was momentarily shifted in away from the heels of HAPPY FORTUNE as that horse was giving ground.
A veterinary inspection of CHARIZARD, CALIFORNIA LEVEE and RED BRICK FIGHTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUPERBELLA, EVER LAUGH and CALIFORNIA LEVEE were sent for sampling.
