On arrival at the Start, it was noted that CLASSIC UNICORN had blood at its mouth. CLASSIC UNICORN was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race.
ALLIED AGILITY shifted out at the start and bumped HIGHLAND FORTUNE.
MR LUMIERES shifted out on jumping and bumped BEAUTY AMIGO.
GENTLE BREEZE began awkwardly.
HIGHLAND FORTUNE lost its right front plate at the start.
Approaching the 900 Metres, HONG KONG WIN was bumped by SAUL’S SPECIAL which was taken out by GUNNISON which in turn was directed out by MULTIMILLION which got its head on the side and shifted out. After this, SAUL’S SPECIAL was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Also approaching the 900 Metres, ALLIED AGILITY got its head on the side and lay out.
After the 500 Metres, GOLDEN DASH was taken wider by GENTLE BREEZE which made the turn awkwardly and shifted out.
CLASSIC UNICORN travelled wide and without cover until approaching the 400 Metres.
For some distance approaching the 400 Metres, HONG KONG WIN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MR LUMIERES.
Approaching the 250 Metres, LARSON was shifted to the outside of CLASSIC UNICORN.
Approaching the 200 Metres, MR LUMIERES got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure.
A Hamelin explained that from a wide barrier, it was intended for HONG KONG WIN to be ridden more quietly in the early stages so as to obtain cover. He said after becoming unbalanced approaching the 900 Metres, he then shifted HONG KONG WIN across to follow MR LUMIERES passing the 600 Metres. He said after being awkwardly placed behind MR LUMIERES and unable to improve approaching the 400 Metres, HONG KONG WIN then finished off the race strongly in the Straight after obtaining clear running.
A veterinary inspection of ALLIED AGILITY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ALLIED AGILITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HIGHLAND FORTUNE, CLASSIC UNICORN and GUNNISON were sent for sampling.
