HINYUEN SWIFTNESS was withdrawn on 12.9.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore and left hind). Before being allowed to race again, HINYUEN SWIFTNESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
As the start was effected, MOERAKI became fractious and lifted its front feet off the ground and was consequently slow to begin.
TEMPEST EXPRESS got its head up on jumping and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
INNER FLAME began awkwardly.
TRUE LEGEND was crowded for room on jumping between SUPER DOBBIN and SMART LEADER which shifted in. Then near the 1150 Metres, TRUE LEGEND was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SUPER DOBBIN when racing in restricted room between that horse and SMART LEADER, both of which shifted ground. SKY FIELD was steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover.
Making the turn after the 900 Metres, SUPER DOBBIN and SMART LEADER raced tight between COMPASSION SPIRIT and INNER FLAME which made the turn awkwardly. After this incident, SMART LEADER was left racing wide and without cover. After the 800 Metres, SUPER DOBBIN continued to race tight outside INNER FLAME which lay out when awkwardly placed behind CRUISING.
SMART LEADER lost its right front plate at the 900 Metres.
After the 600 Metres, MOERAKI shifted out abruptly away from the heels of SKY FIELD which was awkwardly placed behind SUPER DOBBIN, resulting in MOERAKI becoming awkwardly placed inside the heels of COMPASSION SPIRIT.
Passing the 400 Metres, SKY FIELD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of INNER FLAME when held up behind that horse. SKY FIELD then had some difficulty obtaining clear running and passing the 350 Metres was shifted to the outside of INNER FLAME.
Throughout the race, COMPASSION SPIRIT travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the performance of INNER FLAME, A Badel stated that after beginning well, he was able to obtain a trailing position behind CRUISING near the 900 Metres. He said although INNER FLAME travelled somewhat keenly in the middle stages, he still believed that the horse had travelled well enough to be able to finish off the race. He said after shifting INNER FLAME away from the rail approaching the 500 Metres, he placed the horse under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn. He said INNER FLAME did not quicken at any stage and then was particularly disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground over the latter stages of the race. A veterinary inspection of INNER FLAME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of INNER FLAME, a last start winner and which finished at the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, INNER FLAME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SMART LEADER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SKY FIELD and LOCKHEED were sent for sampling.
