CLUB LAD began only fairly. STAR PRESENT shifted out at the start and brushed STAR SUPERIOR. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, LUCKY PUZZLE failed to muster speed and from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching the 700 Metres, STAR PRESENT was left racing wide and without cover. STAR PRESENT then got its head on the side and lay out making the turn after the 700 Metres which afforded STAR SUPERIOR the opportunity to improve into tight running inside STAR PRESENT. LUCKY PUZZLE lay out after the 600 Metres. Passing the 200 Metres, CAN’T TOUCH THIS shifted out abruptly when being directed to the outside of CLUB LAD to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, FORTUNE HAPPINESS was awkwardly placed outside the heels of EIGHT TRIGRAMS (Apprentice C L Chau) which drifted out under pressure. Apprentice Chau was told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances. A veterinary inspection of STAR PRESENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. EIGHT TRIGRAMS and FORTUNE HAPPINESS were sent for sampling.
