Steward Report Predict Pace Map
MOMENT OF POWER was withdrawn on 8.6.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, MOMENT OF POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MULTIMILLION was crowded for room on jumping between SAUL’S SPECIAL and GOLDEN DASH which shifted out. In this incident, MULTIMILLION bumped the hindquarters of SAUL’S SPECIAL which became unbalanced. BALTIC SUCCESS began only fairly and then shifted out away from STRONGER, resulting in LOVING A BOOM and MASSIVE POCKET being inconvenienced. After this, from the outside barriers, LOVING A BOOM and MASSIVE POCKET were shifted across behind runners and BALTIC SUCCESS was slow to muster speed despite being ridden along for a considerable distance. A short distance after the start, GENTLE BREEZE shifted in and bumped SAUL’S SPECIAL which in turn shifted in and inconvenienced MULTIMILLION. Approaching the 900 Metres, MULTIMILLION got its head on the side and shifted out, resulting in SAUL’S SPECIAL and GENTLE BREEZE being inconvenienced. Near the 800 Metres, MULTIMILLION and SAUL’S SPECIAL came into contact. Then passing the 800 Metres, SAUL’S SPECIAL became badly unbalanced after being bumped by MULTIMILLION which got its head on the side and shifted out away from GOLDEN DASH. Passing the 700 Metres, LOVING A BOOM was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GENTLE BREEZE. STRONGER got its head on the side and made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in BALTIC SUCCESS being bumped and taken wider. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, GENTLE BREEZE and MASSIVE POCKET raced tight. At the entrance to the Straight and again after the 300 Metres, GOLDEN DASH was shifted out away from the heels of CLASSIC UNICORN. Near the 100 Metres, SAUL’S SPECIAL was checked when crowded for room between GOLDEN DASH (Z Purton) which shifted out away from the heels of CLASSIC UNICORN which lay out under pressure and STRONGER which was directed in by MASSIVE POCKET (C Y Ho) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Both Z Purton and C Y Ho were severely reprimanded with Z Purton being told that he must exercise due care when shifting ground in similar circumstances and C Y Ho being told to ensure that he straightens his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion. Throughout the race, STRONGER and BALTIC SUCCESS travelled wide and without cover. The Stewards will interview H T Mo, the rider of BALTIC SUCCESS, regarding his riding of the horse in the early stages prior to the Sha Tin racemeeting to be conducted on Sunday, 14 June 2020. A veterinary inspection of MULTIMILLION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. MASSIVE POCKET and HONG KONG WIN were sent for sampling. <14/6/2020 10 June 2020 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 9 (737)>The Stewards today interviewed H T Mo regarding his riding of BALTIC SUCCESS in this race. H T Mo stated that he was asked to give the horse a good warm-up behind the barriers and to obtain a forward position either in the lead or outside the lead if possible. He said this was consistent with the manner in which the horse had previously been ridden. He said BALTIC SUCCESS began only fairly and then was inconvenienced by STRONGER which shifted out. He said he rode his mount along after this to obtain a forward position, however, BALTIC SUCCESS did not show as much early speed as had previously been the case. He said this required him to ride BALTIC SUCCESS along vigorously for a considerable distance in the early stages to improve his position. He said approaching the 600 Metres he was able to improve his position to race outside the hindquarters of STRONGER but in a four wide position. He said he was not able to clear STRONGER to his inside and this resulted in BALTIC SUCCESS racing very wide and without cover. He added then in the early part of the Straight BALTIC SUCCESS came under heavy pressure and gave ground over the concluding stages. H T Mo was severely reprimanded regarding his riding of BALTIC SUCCESS. He was placed on notice that the lack of initiative and judgement that he had shown on BALTIC SUCCESS in this race was of considerable concern to the Stewards as it fell well short of what is required of a jockey riding in Hong Kong. He was told he had ridden BALTIC SUCCESS poorly as there was a clear opportunity for him to obtain cover behind STRONGER approaching the 600 Metres given that he had had to ride the horse aggressively for the previous 300 Metres which would have availed it of the opportunity to race with cover rather than being required to race four wide and without cover. Jockey Mo was advised that a repeat of this type of riding may result in his suitability to continue riding in Hong Kong being reviewed.
