As the start was effected, IMPECCABLE FELLOW reared abruptly and lost a significant amount of ground. Having regard to IMPECCABLE FELLOW’s prior record of behaviour in the barriers, the Stewards ruled that the horse must undertake a series of consecutive satisfactory barrier trials prior to being permitted to race again.
YOUNG POWER shifted out at the start and bumped heavily with SPIRIT, resulting in both horses bumping on a number of occasions and becoming very unbalanced. Then from wide barriers, YOUNG POWER and SPIRIT were shifted across behind runners.
LET’S TAKE IT EASY and HAPPY ROCKY were also eased in the early stages to obtain cover.
YOUNG POWER made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and then near the 450 Metres, when being ridden along, stumbled. After this, YOUNG POWER was eased down. A veterinary inspection of YOUNG POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. As this was the second occasion in two starts that YOUNG POWER had finished tailed out, the Stewards ruled that the horse will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
When questioned regarding the performance of SHINING ON, J Moreira stated that he was able to obtain a midfield position in the early stages and SHINING ON travelled comfortably behind the eventual winner FLASH FAMOUS. He said he shifted SHINING ON out to follow FLASH FAMOUS after the 800 Metres and he was initially satisfied with the manner in which SHINING ON was able to maintain its position behind that horse. He said however that making the turn after the 600 Metres SHINING ON came under pressure and after shifting to the outside of FLASH FAMOUS at the entrance to the Straight was somewhat disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of SHINING ON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ELECTRIC LIGHTNING had sustained a cut to the inside of the left hind cannon.
Also after the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that SPIRIT was lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
FLASH FAMOUS and TANGMERE were sent for sampling.
