As the start was effected, DASHING DART lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently lost ground and then, despite being ridden along, failed to muster speed. HAY RUN began awkwardly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. SPARKLING KNIGHT shifted out at the start and bumped BUNDLE OF ENERGY. When being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover, SAVVY SEVEN was momentarily steadied away from the heels of THE FULL BLOOM which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. SPARKLING KNIGHT travelled keenly passing the 1500 Metres. After initially being steadied in an endeavour to obtain cover behind SPARKLING KNIGHT passing the 1400 Metres, BUNDLE OF ENERGY was allowed to improve its position after the 1200 Metres when left racing wide and without cover. After the 1100 Metres, ROYAL RACER was steadied away from the heels of WITNESS HUNTER (B Shinn) which shifted in when not quite clear. B Shinn was advised to exercise more care. Passing the 700 Metres, CHIU CHOW KID was momentarily crowded for room inside ELECTRIC LIGHTNING which shifted in marginally before being contacted on the hindquarters by CHIU CHOW KID and then shifting in further. After the race, it was noted that ELECTRIC LIGHTNING had sustained a laceration to its right hind heel. Passing the 500 Metres, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPARKLING KNIGHT. CHIU CHOW KID was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. Throughout the race, THE FULL BLOOM travelled wide and without cover. After the race, B Shinn was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of WITNESS HUNTER. He said the horse enjoyed a good run throughout the race, however, did not finish off the race as strongly as anticipated. A veterinary inspection of WITNESS HUNTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of CHIU CHOW KID immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SMART PATCH and CALIFORNIA LEGEND were sent for sampling.
