SOLAR WAI WAI began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CASA DE FORCA. MONSTER KAKA was bumped at the start by CRUCIATUS which was taken out by GOOD BEAUTY. After this, MONSTER KAKA was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From the outside barriers, AFRICAN SKY and CHARIZARD were shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover. After travelling a short distance, PRECIOUSSHIP raced tight between SOLAR WAI WAI and PAKISTAN FRIEND which shifted in. Then approaching the 1300 Metres, PRECIOUSSHIP was awkwardly placed outside SOLAR WAI WAI which shifted out marginally. Approaching the 1200 Metres, PAKISTAN FRIEND raced tight outside PRECIOUSSHIP which shifted out. After the 1100 Metres, PICKEN was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 650 Metres, PAKISTAN FRIEND raced tight between PICKEN and SOLAR WAI WAI which shifted out away from the heels of CASA DE FORCA when continuing to be very awkwardly placed behind that horse. CHUNG WAH SPIRIT lay out rounding the Home Turn. Over the final 100 Metres, CHARIZARD hung in under pressure. After the race, U Rispoli (SOLAR WAI WAI) stated that he had intended to remain racing away from the rail approaching the first turn, however, when the tempo of the race was good in the early stages and as SOLAR WAI WAI was awkwardly placed inside the heels of PRECIOUSSHIP, he was comfortable then to take a position on the rail. He said however that after he made this decision, the tempo of the race appeared to steady somewhat and SOLAR WAI WAI then commenced to over-race which resulted in the horse getting its head up when being checked away from the heels of CASA DE FORCA for some distance after the 900 Metres. He said after this SOLAR WAI WAI continued to prove very difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed behind CASA DE FORCA. He said he was able to shift SOLAR WAI WAI out in the early part of the Straight, however, the horse did not quicken or finish off the race as anticipated which he attributed to the manner in which it over-raced in the middle stages. A veterinary inspection of SOLAR WAI WAI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of PAKISTAN FRIEND immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” PICKEN, HAPPY FUN and VOLPINO were sent for sampling.
