WORLD FAMOUS began only fairly and then shortly after the start raced tight between WIN WIN and SUPER STAR which shifted in. PRECIOUSSHIP was crowded for room on jumping between STAR MAJESTIC and SOLAR WAI WAI which shifted out. From wide barriers, ASSIMILATE and MONSTER KAKA were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1200 Metres, BETTER CHOICE was steadied after racing tight inside UNCLE STEVE which was taken in by SOLAR WAI WAI (U Rispoli). U Rispoli was reprimanded. After the 1200 Metres, STAR MAJESTIC lost ground when crowded for room between WORLD FAMOUS which got its head on the side and shifted in and BETTER CHOICE which shifted out. WIN WIN, which was following, was severely checked away from the heels of STAR MAJESTIC in consequence. Near the 800 Metres, BETTER CHOICE became unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of UNCLE STEVE. BETTER CHOICE then got its head on the side and lay out towards the heels of WORLD FAMOUS near the 750 Metres, resulting in BETTER CHOICE again becoming unbalanced. Also near the 800 Metres, WORLD FAMOUS was steadied away from the heels of PICKEN. Near the 650 Metres, BETTER CHOICE again shifted out and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WORLD FAMOUS. Approaching the 500 Metres, UNCLE STEVE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CRAIG’S STAR. In the early part of the Straight, PRECIOUSSHIP was held up for clear running behind HARMONY HERO and near the 300 Metres was shifted to the outside of that horse. Near the 350 Metres, MONSTER KAKA was bumped by ASSIMILATE which shifted to the outside of STAR MAJESTIC. After this, STAR MAJESTIC lost its left hind plate. UNCLE STEVE was unable to obtain clear running at any stage in the Straight and was not tested. Throughout the race, PICKEN travelled wide and without cover. After the race, R Bayliss stated that after being checked after the 1200 Metres, WIN WIN was not suited by the slow tempo of the race. He said after shifting to the outside of runners in the early part of the Straight, WIN WIN was only one-paced and, in his opinion, was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of WIN WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. A veterinary inspection of WORLD FAMOUS and BETTER CHOICE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SUPER STAR at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. UNCLE STEVE, SOLAR WAI WAI and CRAIG’S STAR were sent for sampling.
