Steward Report Predict Pace Map
AIOLOS was withdrawn on 16.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (colic treatment) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter IRISH VEGA (C Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, AIOLOS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. YEE CHEONG LUCKY began only fairly and then despite being hard ridden for a considerable distance failed to show any early speed. BANDY was slow to begin and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, LUCKY THOUGHT got its head on the side and lay out. M Harley (GENERAL IRON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting in which resulted in GENERAL IRON shifting in across the rightful running of LUCKY THOUGHT which was checked. M Harley was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 8 May 2019 and to expire on Sunday, 12 May 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). Immediately after the race, the Stewards interviewed G van Niekerk regarding the circumstances of tonight’s race as they related to his mount CAPTAIN BOSS. G van Niekerk stated that shortly after the start CAPTAIN BOSS became unbalanced after being bumped by EVERBRAVE. He said he rode his mount along in the early stages in an attempt to prevent GENTLE BREEZE from crossing CAPTAIN BOSS, however, CAPTAIN BOSS, after the 900 Metres, commenced to hang in badly. He said he felt that if he continued to ride the horse along to maintain its position inside GENTLE BREEZE, the horse would shift in abruptly across the heels of EVERBRAVE. He said, despite his efforts after the 900 Metres, CAPTAIN BOSS continued to hang in and because of the manner in which the horse was racing he was unable to prevent GENTLE BREEZE from crossing CAPTAIN BOSS near the 600 Metres. He added making the turn at the 600 Metres the bit commenced to pull through the mouth of CAPTAIN BOSS and after rounding the Home Turn the bit had pulled completely through the horse’s mouth which resulted in the bridle shifting accordingly. He said he made a number of attempts in the Straight to correct the bridle to prevent it pulling over the horse’s ears. He said whilst he did this CAPTAIN BOSS continued to hang in and he had little control over the horse given that the bit had pulled completely through its mouth. He said because of this he was not able to test CAPTAIN BOSS at any stage in the Straight. Mr A T Millard, the trainer of CAPTAIN BOSS, informed the Stewards that it was his intention to add a ring bit to the horse’s gear before racing again. Whilst the Stewards were mindful that the bit had pulled through the horse’s mouth, nonetheless they were of the view that the horse’s inclination to hang in from shortly after the start had led to this occurrence and therefore ruled that CAPTAIN BOSS must barrier trial satisfactorily around a bend prior to being permitted to race again. A veterinary inspection of CAPTAIN BOSS immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained minor lacerations to the inside of the left hock. H T Mo (MY DEAR) was fined $5,000 for excessive use of the whip on a horse clearly out of contention. GENERAL IRON and LOOK ERAS were sent for sampling. <18/4/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>CAPTAIN BOSS, which hung in from shortly after the start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time the horse had sustained minor lacerations to the inside of the left hock. CAPTAIN BOSS was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A T Millard this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, CAPTAIN BOSS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The horse will also be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial around a bend as previously advised.
