FAIRY TWINS shifted out at the start and bumped FLYING TIGER HERO. From the outside barrier, BRAVERY AND POWER was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From a wide barrier, STRATHALLAN was steadied in the early stages in an attempt to obtain cover, however, was left racing wide and without cover after the 600 Metres. Making the turn near the 600 Metres, STRATHALLAN lay in towards the heels of SPECIAL STARS. Near the 150 Metres, STRATHALLAN was steadied and shifted to the inside of SPECIAL STARS when disappointed for running between that horse and CALIFORNIA ARGENT. Also near the 150 Metres, BRAVERY AND POWER got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly towards the heels of FLYING TIGER HERO. After the race, Z Purton expressed concern regarding the action of SPECIAL STARS. The Veterinary Officer reported that there were no significant findings, however, noted that the horse had lost its left hind plate during the race (600 Metres). Before being allowed to race again, SPECIAL STARS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DRAGON PIONEER, C Y Ho stated that the only excuse he could offer for the horse’s failure to finish off the race was that he had to ride his mount aggressively for a considerable distance in the early stages to take up a forward position. He said DRAGON PIONEER did not travel strongly at any stage of the race and then was disappointing in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of DRAGON PIONEER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON PIONEER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of BRAVERY AND POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. DRAGON PIONEER, SPEEDY KING and DREAM COME TRUE were sent for sampling.
