WINNING CIRCLE began only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Also from the outside barrier, SEIZE THE SPIRIT was shifted across behind runners shortly after the start. Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, LAKESHORE EAGLE failed to muster speed and near the 900 Metres was bumped by WINNING CIRCLE which shifted in. Near the 950 Metres, BULLISH BROTHER and FULL OF BEAUTY bumped, resulting in FULL OF BEAUTY becoming badly unbalanced. Near the 650 Metres, FULL OF BEAUTY got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUPER MODEL. WAYFOONG CHARMER, which was following and also travelling keenly, was steadied away from the heels of FULL OF BEAUTY in consequence. Approaching the 600 Metres, BACK IN BLACK was awkwardly placed behind COOLCELEB. RED HORSE, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. WINNING CIRCLE lost its left front plate approaching the 600 Metres. At the entrance to the Straight, RED HORSE was shifted to the inside of runners to obtain clear running. At the 150 Metres, YICHUN BLITZ shifted in abruptly away from LAKESHORE EAGLE, resulting in WAYFOONG CHARMER being inconvenienced and Z Purton, the rider of YICHUN BLITZ, having to stop riding and straighten his mount. In the Straight, WAYFOONG CHARMER lay out. For the majority of the race, BULLISH BROTHER travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of YICHUN BLITZ immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on WAYFOONG CHARMER at the request of Trainer P O’Sullivan. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WAYFOONG CHARMER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FULL OF BEAUTY and LAKESHORE EAGLE were sent for sampling.
