GO PUBLIC began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped NUCLEAR POWER, causing GO PUBLIC to become unbalanced. GO PUBLIC then lost ground when crowded for room between STARLIGHT which was taken out by GOKO and NUCLEAR POWER which was taken in by COMPLACENCY. In this incident, STARLIGHT was also steadied away from the heels of GOKO. After this, COMPLACENCY was ridden along and after being shifted in behind GOKO passing the 1000 Metres was then ridden harder still to maintain its position behind that horse, however, COMPLACENCY failed to muster speed.
CHEERFULJET shifted out at the start and bumped FLYING TIGER HERO.
Approaching the 900 Metres, TEAM FORTUNE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GOKO which shifted out marginally.
Making the turn near the 700 Metres, GAMEPLAYER EMPEROR was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOKO. TEAM FORTUNE, which was racing outside GAMEPLAYER EMPEROR, was hampered in consequence when positioned inside the heels of PEOPLE’S KNIGHT.
RAGING BLITZKRIEG was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and after being shifted to the outside of GAMEPLAYER EMPEROR in an attempt to obtain clear running was then directed back to the inside of that horse which shifted out marginally. When GAMEPLAYER EMPEROR shifted back in near the 250 Metres, RAGING BLITZKRIEG was shifted to the outside of that horse after being disappointed for running inside GAMEPLAYER EMPEROR. Because of this, RAGING BLITZKRIEG was not able to obtain clear running until near the 200 Metres.
Throughout the race, FLYING TIGER HERO travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
Throughout the race, PEOPLE’S KNIGHT travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of PEOPLE’S KNIGHT, Trainer J Moore stated that, in his opinion, this was primarily due to PEOPLE’S KNIGHT being better suited to the All Weather surface than the turf tracks. He said he had barrier trialed PEOPLE’S KNIGHT on the All Weather Track in the lead up to today’s race and the horse had performed very well in this trial. He said since then PEOPLE’S KNIGHT’s work had improved considerably and based on the manner in which the horse trialed and its track work, he anticipated that it would perform well in today’s race.
A veterinary inspection of CHEERFULJET and FLYING TIGER HERO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of NUCLEAR POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings despite the horse being found to have sustained a small wound on the right hind coronary band.
PEOPLE’S KNIGHT and RAGING BLITZKRIEG were sent for sampling.
