On arrival at the Start, SPICY DOUBLE had its right front plate refitted. SPICY DOUBLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
RICHCITY FORTUNE began only fairly and then despite being ridden along failed to muster speed.
CARRY TO WIN and REGENCY HONEY bumped at the start, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. CARRY TO WIN was then crowded for room between REGENCY HONEY and IDYLLIC WIND. From wide barriers, both CARRY TO WIN and REGENCY HONEY were then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
On jumping, RUGBY DIAMOND lost ground when crowded for room between SHOWING CHARACTER and PADDINGTON, both of which shifted ground. In this incident, SHOWING CHARACTER and PADDINGTON became unbalanced after receiving contact on the hindquarters from RUGBY DIAMOND.
Passing the 800 Metres, RUGBY DIAMOND raced in restricted room outside SHOWING CHARACTER which was steadied when awkwardly placed outside the heels of KING’S STEED which shifted out.
After the 600 Metres, PEACE ON EARTH was momentarily steadied away from the heels of IDYLLIC WIND which shifted in. RICHCITY FORTUNE, which was following, got its head up when awkwardly placed behind PEACE ON EARTH in consequence.
Passing the 500 Metres, SPICY DOUBLE raced in restricted room inside RICHCITY FORTUNE.
Approaching the 250 Metres, RUGBY DIAMOND was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PADDINGTON.
Passing the 250 Metres, SHOWING CHARACTER momentarily raced in restricted room inside KING’S STEED.
At the 150 Metres, REGENCY HONEY shifted in away from the heels of IDYLLIC WIND and bumped RICHCITY FORTUNE.
Approaching the 100 Metres, RUGBY DIAMOND was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CARRY TO WIN.
At the 50 Metres, PADDINGTON was bumped by IDYLLIC WIND which shifted in when crowded for room inside PEACE ON EARTH (H N Wong) which shifted in before being directed out to relieve the tightening to IDYLLIC WIND and PADDINGTON. H N Wong was reprimanded and reminded of his obligation to stop riding and straighten his mounts as soon as they commence shifting ground.
Over the concluding stages, RICHCITY FORTUNE raced tight outside the heels of FIRST BEAUT.
Also over the concluding stages, SPICY DOUBLE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of KING’S STEED and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Throughout the race, IDYLLIC WIND travelled wide and without cover.
SHOWING CHARACTER, ACTUARIAT and CARRY TO WIN were sent for sampling.
