WHAT ELSE BUT YOU was withdrawn on 11.5.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inflamed left front fetlock). Before being allowed to race again, WHAT ELSE BUT YOU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The Stewards today interviewed Trainer J M Moore regarding the circumstances which led to the Stewards acceding to a request from him to withdraw MISTER KAOPU and VICTORY MEGASTAR on 11 May 2018 following a report from Dr T S M Wan, the Club’s Head of Racing Laboratory, that the urine samples taken from both horses after arriving in Hong Kong were found, upon analysis, to contain a prohibited substance, such substance being as a result of treatment with a registered veterinary medication prior to departing Macau. Dr Wan further advised that subsequent urine samples taken from MISTER KAOPU and VICTORY MEGASTAR on 10 May 2018 were also found to be positive to the same substance. It was established that the administration of the treatment to MISTER KAOPU and VICTORY MEGASTAR was not declared on routine medication declaration documents submitted to the Club prior to the horses departing Macau. MISTER KAOPU was replaced by Standby Declared Starter PERPETUAL JOYANCE (J Moreira). Mr Moore pleaded guilty to a charge issued under Rule 12 (32) in that he was negligent in the performance of his duties which could have led to a breach of the Rules of Racing, such Rules relating to the necessity for horses to be free of prohibited substances on the day on which they are intended to race. After considering all the circumstances of this case, Mr Moore was fined the sum of $20,000. KELOWNA STAR began awkwardly and then was bumped by RACING SUPERNOVA which shifted out. CALCULATION shifted out at the start and bumped JOYFUL TRINITY. Then when being ridden along to obtain a more forward position, CALCULATION raced tight between SUPER FLUKE and JOYFUL TRINITY for a short distance after the start. After the 1300 Metres, CALCULATION was awkwardly placed behind PERPETUAL JOYANCE which was being steadied in an attempt to obtain cover. PERPETUAL JOYANCE however subsequently travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race. CALCULATION was then left racing wide and without cover and near the 1000 Metres was allowed to improve its position to race in the lead after the 800 Metres. From a wide barrier, ROMANTIC TOUCH was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover. When being steadied to allow MARVEL TRIBE to cross in the early stages, MAGIC LEGEND got its head up and proved difficult to settle. MAGIC LEGEND then got its head up repeatedly after the 1200 Metres when travelling keenly. Near the 800 Metres, CALIFORNIA WHIP was awkwardly placed close to the heels of THE GOLDEN AGE which was steadied to allow CALCULATION to cross. Passing the 200 Metres, Z Purton (MAGIC LEGEND) momentarily dropped his left rein. Approaching the 100 Metres, ROMANTIC TOUCH was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER FLUKE. After the race, B Prebble reported that SUPER FLUKE did not feel comfortable in its action during periods of the race. A veterinary inspection of SUPER FLUKE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER FLUKE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of MAGIC LEGEND immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of MARVEL TRIBE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CALCULATION, CALIFORNIA WHIP and RACING SUPERNOVA were sent for sampling.
