NEW ELEGANCE began awkwardly and then on jumping was bumped by SANGRIA which shifted out. A short distance after the start, SANGRIA was momentarily awkwardly placed near the heels of PERFECT TO PLAY when taken in by NEW ELEGANCE which was racing tight inside TAI SMART. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, JOLLY GENE did not show sufficient early speed to lead. After travelling a short distance, TAI SMART was steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier. Passing the 1600 Metres, HEROIC GURU was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RULE THEE. In the early stages, PERFECT TO PLAY (Apprentice H N Wong) raced with its head on the side and lay in away from DYNAMIC EAGLE. After this, PERFECT TO PLAY continued to race with its head on the side and lay in. After the race, Apprentice Wong stated that PERFECT TO PLAY did not feel comfortable in its action during the race. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT TO PLAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT TO PLAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOLLY GENE was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 300 Metres. FAITHFUL TRINITY was badly held up for clear running from shortly after entering the Straight until near the 100 Metres. Over the concluding stages, RULE THEE raced tight outside FAITHFUL TRINITY which shifted out after being awkwardly placed outside the heels of DYNAMIC EAGLE. A veterinary inspection of GREEN ENERGY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. RULE THEE, JOLLY GENE and DYNAMIC EAGLE were sent for sampling.
