POWER MAN was slow to begin.
GAMEPLAYER EMPEROR began only fairly.
Approaching the first turn near the 1000 Metres, FORTUNE BOOTH was steadied away from the heels of SUPER LEADER which shifted in.
ALCARI lay out and made the Home Turn awkwardly.
Upon straightening, FORTUNE BOOTH was steadied when disappointed for running between HARD PROMISE and BREEDERS’ STAR where there was insufficient room. FORTUNE BOOTH was consequently shifted to the inside of the heels of HARD PROMISE passing the 200 Metres to obtain clear running.
Passing the 200 Metres, ALCARI shifted in, resulting in BREEDERS’ STAR shifting in and making contact with HARD PROMISE. FORTUNE BOOTH, which was improving to the inside of HARD PROMISE, shifted in and inconvenienced GAMEPLAYER EMPEROR.
Over the concluding stages, GAMECHANGERS and SUPER LEADER, which was inclined to lay in, raced tight.
Throughout the race, SHANGHAI MASTER travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CHEERFULJET, K C Leung stated that in accordance with his instructions he rode CHEERFULJET positively and was able to assume a position outside the leader ALCARI without making too much use of his mount. He said however that throughout the race CHEERFULJET was inclined to lay out and would not shift over and race near ALCARI. He added that when placed under pressure in the Straight CHEERFULJET gave no response and weakened. A veterinary inspection of CHEERFULJET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FORTUNE BOOTH and ALCARI were sent for sampling.
