VICTORY MUSIC began awkwardly and lost ground. WINGOLD and STARRY STARLIES bumped on jumping. From wide barriers, WINNING VIBE and TELECOM BOOM were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Approaching the 1100 Metres, JOLLY AMBER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WHISTLE UP. Also approaching the 1100 Metres, PLAIN BLUE BANNER raced tight inside SOUL ACHIEVER which got its head up and shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SNOWHOOVES. Approaching the 900 Metres, SNOWHOOVES and STARRY STARLIES bumped due to both horses shifting ground. After this, SNOWHOOVES commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of GAINFULJET (K C Leung) which shifted in when not quite clear. K C Leung was advised that whilst the racing manners of SNOWHOOVES had played a significant part in this incident, nonetheless he must ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. PLAIN BLUE BANNER shifted out away from the heels of SNOWHOOVES in consequence and raced tight inside SOUL ACHIEVER. After this incident, STARRY STARLIES was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 700 Metres, VICTORY MUSIC was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PLAIN BLUE BANNER. Approaching the 200 Metres, SNOWHOOVES was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GAINFULJET. YOURTHEWONFORME was unable to obtain clear running from after the 200 Metres until over the concluding stages and consequently was not able to be fully tested. W M Lai (STARRY STARLIES) was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out all the way to the end of the race at least hands and heels wherever circumstances permit. When questioned, U Rispoli stated that with YOURTHEWONFORME stepping up in distance today, it had been intended for the horse to be ridden in about a midfield position. He said however that after proving somewhat difficult to load, YOURTHEWONFORME was slow to begin which resulted in the horse racing further back in the field than had been intended. A veterinary inspection of YOURTHEWONFORME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. YOURTHEWONFORME, WINNING VIBE and JIMSON THE FAMOUS were sent for sampling.
