GREEN CARD shifted in at the start and bumped HARBOUR NOVA. PAKISTAN BABY, CAPE THE FAITH and CHARITY GLORY were all badly crowded for room between FLYING FORCE and DIAMOND DRAGON which, after initially being directed out by FABULOUS NOVEMBER, then shifted further away from that horse. After this, PAKISTAN BABY, CAPE THE FAITH and CHARITY GLORY were all shifted across behind runners. Also from a wide barrier, GOLDEN DEER was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1000 Metres, CAPE THE FAITH got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HARBOUR NOVA. Passing the 900 Metres, GREEN CARD was steadied away from the heels of RIGHT CALL (Apprentice K K Chiong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Chiong was reprimanded and advised to ensure that she is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. DIAMOND DRAGON lay out in the middle stages. FABULOUS NOVEMBER had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 300 Metres was shifted out across the heels of DIAMOND DRAGON. HARBOUR NOVA was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 200 Metres made contact with LANG TAI SING to obtain clear running between that horse and FAIRY TWINS. N Callan (FAIRY TWINS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching and passing the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of HARBOUR NOVA, causing that horse to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled and to be badly hampered. N Callan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 16 October 2016 and to expire on Thursday, 20 October 2016 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, N Callan was fined $20,000. Following this incident, HARBOUR NOVA was then held up for clear running behind FAIRY TWINS and LANG TAI SING until just prior to the finishing line. When questioned regarding the performance of GREEN CARD, D Whyte stated that as horses which were racing on the speed in previous races today appeared to be advantaged, he was asked to ride GREEN CARD in about 4th or 5th position if possible. He said the connections of GREEN CARD did not want to give away too much ground to the front runners in today’s race having regard to the horse carrying 132 lbs. He said when GREEN CARD began well, he was able to obtain a forward position without having to pressure the horse. He said he did give consideration to shifting in to race behind FIVE UP HIGH in the early stages, however, he did not believe that horse would take him into the race, therefore he elected to ride forward of FIVE UP HIGH in order to possibly obtain a position in advance of LANG TAI SING. He said however that that horse was ridden along to maintain its position and this resulted in GREEN CARD racing in a three wide position without cover throughout the race. He added whilst GREEN CARD did not finish off the race over the concluding stages, he contributed this to the fact that the horse was obliged to cover ground rather than being ridden in a more forward position than it had previously. A veterinary inspection of GREEN CARD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LANG TAI SING and FAIRY TWINS were sent for sampling.
