EMPIRE OF MONGOLIA and SEASONS KING were steadied and shifted across behind runners soon after the start to obtain cover. Approaching the 1100 Metres, WINNING BOY was steadied away from the heels of VICTORIUS which shifted out. After the 1000 Metres, FOREVER ACCURATE was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 900 Metres, WINNING BOY got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of VICTORIUS which shifted in. After being crossed by SEA JADE, RUMINARE was steadied away from the heels of that horse at the 800 Metres. In the middle stages, EMPIRE OF MONGOLIA got its head on the side and lay out when racing greenly. Over the final 200 Metres, WINNINGLI shifted ground when giving ground under pressure. When questioned regarding his riding of HAPPY WAY WINNER, M L Yeung stated that the horse settled back in the field and after being pushed along rounding the Home Turn, he brought HAPPY WAY WINNER to the outside of UNIQUE AWESOME at the entrance of the Straight where it commenced to make some ground. He said although HAPPY WAY WINNER was inclined to lay out slightly, he continued to ride the horse hands and heels and slapped it with the whip down the shoulder on a number of occasions. When questioned as to why he did not use the whip behind the saddle in the latter part of the Straight, M L Yeung stated that he felt the horse was at its top and was giving its best, therefore he continued to ride the horse hands and heels. M L Yeung was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he must ensure that he tests his mounts in such a fashion so that his riding does not come under notice. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY WAY WINNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SEASONS KING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. RUMINARE, SEA JADE and FOREVER ACCURATE were sent for sampling.
