MANFUL STAR was withdrawn on 16.9.16 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (injury to left knee) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ROCK THE TREE (H W Lai). Before being allowed to race again, MANFUL STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being loaded into the barriers, JING JING WIN became fractious and momentarily sat down. JING JING WIN was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, JING JING WIN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Also after being loaded into the barriers, GAINFULJET became fractious and reared on several occasions. Before being allowed to race again, GAINFULJET will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. RICHCITY FORTUNE shifted out on jumping and bumped UNIQUE AWESOME which became unbalanced. HASTILY FEET and BOSSIEE began only fairly. EVERYONE'S CHOICE (T H So) began awkwardly and got its head up on a number of occasions. T H So was advised to ensure that he gives his mounts sufficient rein so that they are able to jump cleanly. Shortly after the start, KINGSTON JUMBO shifted in and bumped GAINFULJET which became unbalanced. From the outside barriers, ROCK THE TREE and JUMBO HAPPINESS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. UNIQUE AWESOME was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Making the turn after the 900 Metres, JING JING WIN was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of GAINFULJET when being steadied to obtain a position outside that horse. Throughout the race, KINGSTON JUMBO travelled wide and without cover and after the 700 Metres got its head on the side and lay out when racing ungenerously. Passing the 400 Metres, WINNING BOY and RICHCITY FORTUNE raced tight as WINNING BOY shifted out to obtain clear running. After the race, O Doleuze explained that rounding the Home Turn he shifted BOSSIEE away from the rail and positioned that horse to improve between RICHCITY FORTUNE and KINGSTON JUMBO. He said however passing the 350 Metres, as he was riding BOSSIEE along to improve its position, his right stirrup leather came loose, resulting in him losing the use of this iron for the remainder of the race. He said as a consequence he was then not able to ride out BOSSIEE. Jockey Doleuze's evidence was supported by the video coverage of the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection of BOSSIEE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JING JING WIN and WINNING BOY were sent for sampling.
