On arrival at the Start, STORM KID, which was keen during the preliminary and took charge of its rider for a short distance, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. SHOWING CHARACTER was crowded for room on jumping between PERFECT SMART and ALL TOGETHER, both of which shifted ground. LEAN JOURNEY began awkwardly and was then shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the outside rail in the early stages. Passing the 900 Metres, ALL TOGETHER got its head on the side, shifted out and bumped MIGHTY GAINS. ALL TOGETHER then became unbalanced and shifted in, resulting in SHOWING CHARACTER being hampered. Also passing the 900 Metres, RICCO RICCO was steadied away from the heels of KING'S STEED. For some distance after the 700 Metres, RICCO RICCO was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING'S STEED and passing the 500 Metres was directed in away from the heels of MIGHTY GAINS. Passing the 400 Metres, KING'S STEED was steadied away from the heels of SHOWING CHARACTER which, when attempting to improve to the outside of ALL TOGETHER, was taken out by that horse. LEAN JOURNEY was held up for clear running passing the 350 Metres and then had difficulty obtaining clear running after the 200 Metres. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that RICCO RICCO had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of FAST ROCKET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LEAN JOURNEY, ACE KING and PERFECT SMART were sent for sampling.
