BORN TO RACE and RISING POWER began only fairly. MASTER GOLD shifted in at the start and bumped PENNY LANE. After this, MASTER GOLD and ST YAZIN, from the outside barriers, were shifted across behind runners. GENTILIS began only fairly, shifted out at the start and bumped ROCKET LET WIN. GENTILIS was then steadied after becoming unbalanced a short distance later when crowded for room between ROCKET LET WIN and EMPEROR VICTORY which shifted out marginally. This resulted in GENTILIS racing back in the field. Then making the first turn near the 1050 Metres, GENTILIS commenced to prove very difficult to settle, got its head up, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ROCKET LET WIN which became unbalanced. GENTILIS continued to prove very difficult to settle for some distance after this and was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of ROCKET LET WIN. In the early stages, PENNY LANE was left racing wide and without cover and after the 800 Metres was ridden along in an attempt to obtain a more forward position. Near the 1000 Metres, RISING POWER got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of GENTILIS when that horse was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ROCKET LET WIN. Making the turn near the 550 Metres, EMPEROR VICTORY and MISSION POSSIBLE raced tight. A veterinary inspection of GENTILIS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FLYING MONKEY and MISSION POSSIBLE were sent for sampling.
