CHEERS JOY was withdrawn after that horse was unable to be saddled. Mr C H Yip, the trainer of CHEERS JOY, was advised that prior to being permitted to race again at Sha Tin, that horse must undertake a satisfactory parade test. Shortly after the start, TEOFILO CALVA momentarily raced tight between G-ONE LEADER and SUPREME FLIGHT. From the outside barriers, HARD BALL GET and UNIVERSAL UNION were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. SEASONS STAR travelled wide and without cover throughout the race and rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight got its head on the side and lay out. Near the 300 Metres, G-ONE LEADER was inconvenienced when disappointed for running between WINNING KING and UNIVERSAL UNION which shifted in. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of NORDIC ONE, D Whyte stated that the horse travelled in a similar manner to which it did at its last start when successful at Happy Valley. He said however that near the 300 Metres NORDIC ONE came under pressure and despite being ridden out gave ground and was particularly disappointing over the final 200 Metres in respect of the manner in which it weakened out of the race. He said the only explanation he could offer was that NORDIC ONE may not have appreciated the firmer track surface at Sha Tin tonight as compared to the surfaces at Happy Valley, a track where the horse had performed best in the past. A veterinary inspection of NORDIC ONE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. TEOFILO CALVA and SUPREME FLIGHT were sent for sampling.
