Steward Report Predict Pace Map
DOMINEER began only fairly. As the start was effected, ULTIMATE GLORY reared and consequently was slow to begin. WELL DONE and NEW DEERFIELD bumped at the start. From the outside barrier, NAUGHTY BABY began only fairly and shortly after the start was shifted across behind runners. At the 800 Metres, GOLD EDITION broke down and was retired from the race. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, ULTIMATE GLORY and TANGO FIRE bumped, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. At the 400 Metres, ULTIMATE GLORY was checked away from the heels of WELL DONE after attempting to improve between that horse and SEA WARRIOR where there was insufficient room. Passing the 150 Metres, ULTIMATE GLORY was shifted out away from the heels of YEE CHEONG STAR. After the race, B Prebble stated that after JOYFUL THE GREAT crossed into the lead, he had intended to shift NEW GLORY across to race outside that horse. He said however that NEW GLORY, despite being urged along, was not able to cross YEE CHEONG STAR as the horse came off the bridle after the 700 Metres. He added this resulted in NEW GLORY racing three wide and without cover outside YEE CHEONG STAR. He said NEW GLORY’s action shortened up noticeably after the 600 Metres and despite being placed under pressure prior to and rounding the Home Turn, NEW GLORY gave ground and as he was concerned regarding the horse’s action, he eased it down over the final 300 Metres. A veterinary inspection of NEW GLORY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of NEW GLORY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NEW GLORY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of YEE CHEONG STAR immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm and was distressed. Before being allowed to race again, YEE CHEONG STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DOMINEER and NEW DEERFIELD were sent for sampling.
