HOW SPEEDY began awkwardly and then became unbalanced after being bumped by DRAGON. After this, both DRAGON and HOW SPEEDY were taken across behind runners in the early stages. FLYING IBIS lost ground shortly after the start when crowded for room between HECO RIDER and QUALITY KING which shifted out. Near the 1100 Metres, KING’S FOLKS was steadied away from the heels of TELECOM PRINCE (O Doleuze) which shifted in when not clear. O Doleuze was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. Passing the 400 Metres, GRACEFUL KINGDOM was bumped by FORTUNE BRAVO (T H So) which got its head on the side and hung in under pressure. In this incident, FORTUNE BRAVO became unbalanced after making contact with GRACEFUL KINGDOM when being shifted out away from that horse. T H So was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise far more care than he did on this occasion. Near the 250 Metres, GOLDEN OSMANTHUS was steadied when crowed for room between HECO RIDER which shifted in marginally and DRAGON (H Bowman) which shifted out. H Bowman was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when testing his mounts in future. Over the final 200 Metres, GRAND HARBOUR got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. In the Straight, HECO RIDER got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. Throughout the race, FORTUNE BRAVO and TELECOM PRINCE travelled wide and without cover. The performance of QUALITY KING, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, QUALITY KING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, D Whyte reported that GOLDEN OSMANTHUS was making an abnormal respiratory noise. An endoscopic examination of GOLDEN OSMANTHUS did not reveal any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of HECO RIDER immediately following the race revealed the horse had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY DAN immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY DAN will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GRACEFUL KINGDOM and FLYING IBIS were sent for sampling.
