On arrival at the Start, it was noted that GOOD TIMES ROLL had lost its right front plate. This plate was refitted. GOOD TIMES ROLL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Also on arrival at the Start, H W Lai, the rider of YOUNG HAPPY, expressed concern regarding the horse’s action. YOUNG HAPPY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said, after the necessary consultations, the horse was suitable to race. HIGH SPEED METRO began awkwardly. PEARL STAR shifted in at the start and hampered IT CAN ONLY BE YOU. From the outside barriers, NO TIES and YOUNG HAPPY were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching the 1500 Metres, MASTER GUNNER raced in restricted room between PEARL STAR and CROATIA (N Callan) which shifted in. N Callan was advised to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances. For a considerable distance after passing the winning post on the first occasion, IT CAN ONLY BE YOU over-raced and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINNING ADVANTAGE. Approaching the 1200 Metres, CROATIA was left racing wide and without cover. After the 900 Metres, HIGH SPEED METRO commenced to over-race and shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of NO TIES, resulting in HIGH SPEED METRO travelling wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. Near the 450 Metres, RED ADVENTURE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ORIENTAL FANTASIA after attempting to improve to the outside of that horse and inside SAMMY’S FALCON where there was insufficient room. In this incident, SAMMY’S FALCON was bumped by RED ADVENTURE. Shortly after entering the Straight, CROATIA was steadied away from the heels of NO TIES which shifted out after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of PEARL STAR. RED ADVENTURE was unable to obtain clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 100 Metres was shifted out away from the heels of SAMMY’S FALCON when disappointed for running between that horse and ORIENTAL FANTASIA. Passing the 100 Metres, MASTER GUNNER was momentarily steadied away from the heels of PEARL STAR (T Berry) which shifted in. T Berry was advised to exercise more care. A veterinary inspection of NO TIES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PEARL STAR and WINNING ADVANTAGE were sent for sampling.
