LA COTE DE BLEU began awkwardly. From the outside barrier, PERFECT TRIUMPH was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, COOL PAL failed to muster speed. SOLAR DRAGON lost its right front plate near the 1300 Metres. After the 800 Metres, AMERICAN FAME was left racing wide and without cover. CITY DELIGHT lost its right front plate near the 750 Metres. In the early part of the Straight, OPTIMIZATION STAR was held up for clear running and near the 300 Metres was shifted out abruptly away from the heels of SOLAR DRAGON which was commencing to give ground. When OPTIMIZATION STAR was shifted out, SPLENDID GUY, which was racing to its outside, was hampered. H W Lai (COOL PAL) dropped his whip at the 300 Metres. After the 200 Metres, YOU AND M shifted out under pressure, resulting in NEWS SUPREME being inconvenienced. In the Straight, GLOBAL FAME lay in under pressure, resulting in its rider changing the whip into his right hand near the 200 Metres. The performance of AMERICAN FAME, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, AMERICAN FAME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SOLAR DRAGON, B Prebble stated that after his mount lost its right front plate near the 1300 Metres, it then did not travel comfortably. He said SOLAR DRAGON can over-race and did so again today after the 1100 Metres when awkwardly placed close to the heels of YOU AND M. He said he shifted SOLAR DRAGON out from behind YOU AND M passing the 500 Metres and immediately placed the horse under pressure, however, SOLAR DRAGON did not respond to his riding and was most disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of SOLAR DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, CITY DELIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
