BRILLIANT PROPOSAL was crowded for room at the start between ROMAN WIN and TOUCH GO which shifted in abruptly. In this incident, ROMAN WIN became unbalanced when bumped by BRILLIANT PROPOSAL. After being shifted out to relieve the tightening to BRILLIANT PROPOSAL, TOUCH GO was then ridden along in the early stages, however, failed to muster speed. GENUINE LEADER and PENIAPHOBIA were taken across behind runners in the early stages. Making the turn near the 550 Metres, FUN 'N' GAMES was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of SIGHT BELIEVER which shifted in slightly. GENUINE LEADER broke down approaching the 400 Metres and was retired from the race. Passing the 150 Metres, FANTASTICO got its head on the side and shifted in. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GOLD EDITION, G Mosse stated that from his wide barrier he had to make considerable use of the horse to clear runners to his inside and obtain a forward position in what was a quickly run race. He said after shifting in to race outside FUN 'N' GAMES near the 500 Metres, he rode his mount along in an endeavour to improve his position outside FUN 'N' GAMES to prevent that horse from shifting out around the leader SIGHT BELIEVER. He said however that GOLD EDITION was not travelling well and he was unable to prevent FUN 'N' GAMES from shifting ground as GOLD EDITION was commencing to give ground rounding the Home Turn. He added GOLD EDITION came under heavy pressure at the entrance to the Straight and, despite being ridden along, gave ground noticeably over the final 300 Metres. He said whilst he had to make use of GOLD EDITION in the early stages, he did not believe that this alone accounted for the horse's disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection of GOLD EDITION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PENIAPHOBIA and SIGHT BELIEVER were sent for sampling.
