J Moreira (BUNDLE OF JOY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 750 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of THE PRINCE, causing that horse to be checked. SIGHT BELIEVER, which was racing inside THE PRINCE, shifted in away from that horse, resulting in BRILLIANT PROPOSAL being steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SIGHT BELIEVER. JOYFUL THE GREAT, which was following THE PRINCE, was hampered in consequence. J Moreira was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 7 April 2014 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Emirates Racing Association World Cup Racemeeting in Dubai on Saturday, 29 March 2014. In addition, J Moreira was fined $60,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. Close to the finishing line, GENERAL IRON was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BUNDLE OF JOY which shifted in slightly. Throughout the race, GAMEKEEPERS travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Z Purton stated that as it was felt that tonight’s race would be run at a fast tempo and a lot of speed in the race was drawn to the inside of GENERAL IRON, he was therefore asked to steady GENERAL IRON in the early stages and shift the horse behind runners and obtain a midfield position with cover. He said that due to EASTERN PROMISE being aggressively ridden after shifting in behind SIGHT BELIEVER near the 900 Metres, he was obliged to shift in behind that horse to obtain a position one horse off the fence with cover. He said this resulted in the horse racing slightly further back than had been hoped. He added after shifting to the inside of runners rounding the Home Turn, GENERAL IRON then finished off the race strongly in the Straight. Mr C S Shum, the trainer of GENERAL IRON, stated that he had anticipated THE PRINCE, SIGHT BELIEVER and BRILLIANT PROPOSAL, which were drawn more favourably than GENERAL IRON, would show speed and it was hoped that GENERAL IRON may be able to obtain a position behind these horses in about midfield. He said however that the circumstances of the race resulted in GENERAL IRON having to shift in behind EASTERN PROMISE which resulted in the horse racing further back in the field than he had anticipated. He added he had anticipated tonight’s race would be run at a quick tempo and he felt that it was in the best interests of GENERAL IRON not to become engaged in a speed battle as the horse may then not be able to finish off the race. He said he was satisfied with the manner in which GENERAL IRON was ridden tonight and he was pleased with the way the horse was able to finish off the race given that it raced further back in the field than had been the case of late. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SKY MASCOT had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of JOYFUL THE GREAT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BUNDLE OF JOY and SIGHT BELIEVER were sent for sampling. <2014/3/13 Additional Veterinary Reports>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that GENERAL IRON was found to have sustained an injury to the right front tendon on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, GENERAL IRON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
