TAKNAM was slow to begin. As the start was effected, BEAUTY LEAD lifted its front feet off the ground and began only fairly. After the 1600 Metres, TRAVEL BRAND commenced to prove difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SEA DRAGON. In this incident, TRAVEL BRAND shifted in slightly, resulting in BEST SHOW being momentarily crowded for room. After the 1000 Metres, BEAUTY LEAD commenced to prove very difficult to settle and blundered when travelling close to the heels of TRAVEL BRAND. Near the 900 Metres, TRAVEL BRAND shifted out away from behind SEA DRAGON and in doing so bumped RACING HERO. When questioned, D Whyte stated that SEA DRAGON travelled well in the early stages, however, passing the 700 Metres, despite being ridden along, was unable to prevent CRACKERJACK from shifting away from the rail and improving into a run which should have been available for SEA DRAGON. He said he had to ride SEA DRAGON along vigorously after this to ensure that the horse was able to remain in a competitive position. He said in the Straight after being placed under heavy pressure, SEA DRAGON then closed off the race well over the concluding stages. He added it is his intention to recommend to the connections of SEA DRAGON that they consider adding blinkers to the horse’s gear to help it concentrate in its races. A veterinary inspection of SEA DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the performance of TABLEAUX, O Doleuze stated that as was the case with the horse’s barrier trial recently in the lead up to today’s race, TABLEAUX became stirred up prior to the start. He said in the early stages he was able to obtain cover behind AUTUMN GOLD, however, when that horse shifted across to race outside the leader near the 1200 Metres, TABLEAUX was then left racing in a three wide position without cover. He added TABLEAUX travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages but came under pressure to maintain its position after the 500 Metres. He said in the Straight the horse got its head on the side and lay in. He said although TABLEAUX raced wide and without cover for a significant portion of the race, in his opinion, the horse’s failure to respond to his riding and finish off the race was disappointing. He further stated that he had noted in a number of its races overseas that the horse had raced well when ridden up on the speed and it is his intention to discuss with the connections as to whether TABLEAUX may be better suited by being ridden in a more forward position in its future races. A veterinary inspection of TABLEAUX immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. TABLEAUX, ASHKIYR and SUNNY YING were sent for sampling.
