EXCITING DREAM was withdrawn on 14.1.14 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore quarter crack) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GREEN ZONE (Apprentice C Y Lui). Before being allowed to race again, EXCITING DREAM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The start was delayed when WINDICATOR STAR proved very difficult to load and after being loaded was fractious in the barriers. Having in mind WINDICATOR STAR’s poor record of barrier behaviour, the Stewards ruled that the horse must satisfactorily undertake a series of consecutive official barrier trials before being allowed to race again. IMPERIAL ROME was very slow to begin. HOLIDAY SUN and WINDICATOR STAR began awkwardly. BULLISH FRIEND and CHARITY JOY bumped shortly after the start. From a wide barrier, CHEETAH BOY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after entering the Straight, GREEN ZONE was bumped by TOUR DE FORCE which shifted in. Near the 250 Metres, TAI SING YEH was shifted to the inside of NEW GLORY after having to be checked away from the heels of that horse when held up for clear running. Near the 50 Metres, SHAHJEE was checked when crowded for room between TOUR DE FORCE (J Moreira) which shifted in before being corrected and directed out by its rider and CHARITY JOY which was taken out slightly by BULLISH FRIEND which got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure. When J Moreira straightened his mount, he was obliged to momentarily stop riding it. In the opinion of the Stewards, J Moreira had made a satisfactory effort to correct his mount after becoming aware that the horse was shifting ground and that at the time that he commenced to correct TOUR DE FORCE, SHAHJEE still had running between that horse and CHARITY JOY. Nonetheless J Moreira was reprimanded and advised that he must ensure that he reacts in a timely manner when horses ridden by him shift ground in races. CHARITY JOY, BULLISH FRIEND and TOUR DE FORCE were sent for sampling.
