MAJESTIC ANTHEM began awkwardly and then shifted out, making contact with MALHECHOR GOLD. After making contact with MALHECHOR GOLD, MAJESTIC ANTHEM then became unbalanced and shifted out further despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in MALHECHOR GOLD being taken out across the running of CHINA POWER which blundered badly after clipping the heels of MALHECHOR GOLD. PINK SOLDIER was slow to begin. HIGH RETURN shifted out at the start and made contact with EURO SWIFTLY. MALHECHOR GOLD raced wide and without cover from the 800 Metres. Soon after straightening, EURO SWIFTLY was disappointed for a run between HIGH RETURN and MAJESTIC ANTHEM which got its head on the side and hung in under pressure in the Straight. When questioned, J Moreira stated that this was the first occasion on which he had ridden THE UNTOUCHABLELAD and when being acquainted with the horse’s racing pattern, Trainer L Ho had advised him that the horse can occasionally be slow to begin and normally races well off the pace. He was further instructed by Mr Ho, from its inside alley, to allow THE UNTOUCHABLELAD to find its feet in the early stages and travel where it was comfortable in the race. He said in accordance with his instructions, he allowed THE UNTOUCHABLELAD to travel where it was comfortable in the early stages and whilst there was an opportunity to have attempted to maintain a position on the back of EURO SWIFTLY in the run to the first turn and prevent OYSTER from shifting in in advance of THE UNTOUCHABLELAD, he felt that to have done this would have required him to ride THE UNTOUCHABLELAD along and make use of the horse which, in his opinion, would have been contrary to his instructions. A veterinary inspection of EURO SWIFTLY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. THE UNTOUCHABLELAD, MAJESTIC ANTHEM and YOUNG TALENT were sent for sampling.
